i wanna do a deck plate mod for my truck but having a hard time find a deck plate. Would it be possible for me to do the mod without the deck plate? like just cut a whole in the air filter box?

    getting there....
you could do that....essentially the same thing/idea. but....i would order a deckplate online and do it so you can close it up if needed. go to overtons.com...or ebay. get a 4 inch plate.

Yes, that's it exactly. These 1st gens have a somewhat restrictive, elbow shaped intake tube that goes into the fender well. The intention was good because it is a source of fresh cool (non engine compartment) air.

When you add a free flowing muffler, along with the deck plate opening, it is possible to pick up a little HP and MPG. We like that. :D

Since when the deckplate is open it has a hole in the filter box, is it bad to have the hot air going into the engine, since the air under the hood is pretty hot?

Actually, it is not as exposed to much hot air, if at all, compared to most cold air intake system designs. The opening is on the front side where fresh air is coming in all the time through the grill area.
