I had the exact same experience, mine has done it since I picked it up with 48 km on it. My dealership couldn't replicate it, or any of my other issues, when I took my truck in for service at 7500 km so I had them document what I've been experiencing and hopefully some fix appears or enough people bitch about it to spur Toyota into action.

There goes my driveshaft theory lol , I’ve also been suspect of the non greasable u joints they switched over to in 2018 . “They can put a man on the moon ... but they can’t figure out a driveline shudder on a basic design that has existed for decades “

That’s how the fixed mine but it went back to shuddering after another 100 miles . Hopefully your issue is truly resolved !

That’s a bummer to hear! Did you take it back again? Are your drums out of round again?

What would cause drums to go out of round multiple times?

I'm not a mechanic by a long stretch but if spitballing.. I would guess it could be an issue if the axles are out of spec with causing the brakes to warp again. I hope it's something simple like a crappy rotor/pads/caliper not a entire rear end replacement. They were supposed to have fixed this issue I thought ... my 2019 was built 10/2018.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on it. I don’t put a lot of miles on so hopefully if it’s gonna come back, it will soon so it can be addressed before the warranty expires. But if it’s gone for good, I’m ok with that too.

    Will keep this thread updated.

I had a guy who's worked in the tire business swear to me he knows what my problem is and it seems so simple. He said he'd bet his next paycheck that even though my truck is new that its a tire balance issue. Taking it tomorrow and having it balanced to see if that the case. I sure hope so. If not, I'm demanding that the dealership replace the truck with another new one.

Usually an out of balance tire would vibrate constantly and increase with speed in my experience but maybe he is on to something, upgrading tires would be an expense I would gladly welcome. However, I've been holding back on any mods just to cut any variables until this issue is resolved.

That doesn't sound plausible to me. How can sitting on the lot change the shape of a metal part?

Went to the dealer today and got forceful. They said they'd open a case log on it and get a Toyota engineer/technician down from Jackson, MS to come and look at it and see. If a few times it don't fix the problem then I'm guessing they would replace it with another new one like it.

I'm bringing my 2019 in tomorrow to have them troubleshoot this issue. I notice it most when braking lightly from speeds of about 40mph. I thought it was actually getting worse as I put more miles on the truck but I have no way of proving that. Truck has around 870 miles on it.

Just curious, did the dealership give you guys a courtesy car while your truck was being repaired?

Mine is in the shop now .. no loaner yet until I hear something ... mango your symptoms are spot on with mine . I can even go out in the country and seat the pads well and have it lessen for 100 miles or so then right back to it .Seems to get worse as you drive it ... brake pedal bouncing underneath foot. I’m going to give them another shot or two at fixing it but if they can’t find a resolution I will take the loss and Toyota and I shall part ways for good.

I’m not sure. I guess I thought the eBrake just put outward pressure on the drum which could, over time (and temp) move metal.

    Perhaps not....

I will tell you right now that if the issue comes back for me, I’ll be quick to get it looked at and fixed again and then drive my truck more (than the current ~5mi./day) to accelerate the 3rd occurrence of the issue and then accept nothing less than a buyback from Toyota.

I sold my favorite car that I’ve had to get this $40k truck. The rumble strip braking is simply unacceptable to me.

Dealer says my rear drums need to be turned. I was surprised because I expected them to give me some lame excuse that there really wasn't a problem. I'll try to stay optimistic even though I've read other posts imply that turning the drums is just a temporary fix.

The dealer is also willing to troubleshoot an annoying buzzing/rattling that I'm getting in the driver-side dashboard (or engine compartment). I give them credit for taking that issue on too. Bonus points if they can actually fix the problem. :fingerscrossed:

well, with only 870 miles and they want to turn the drums, you have just allowed them to reduce the life of your new brakes......if it were me and they wanted to do that, I would demand "NEW" drums be applied and not turn the current ones......why would you allow that.....it s like letting them put you tires and a truer, and grind them down cutting material so now instead of having tires with 9/32 tread, you only have 3/32....
