Anything welding

Once assembled I used a feeler gauge to check it against several levels I had, I would have been hard pressed to slide a piece of paper folded in half on the biggest part. It’s flatter than I’ll ever need

 

That's good to hear. I've been contemplating build a better table than what I've currently got but it would require using material that is too expensive and heavy for me to manage in my garage alone. These certi-flat tables fit the bill as a jig table for me and still come out cheaper than what I could build it for. I'll most likely be purchasing the 2'x5' table and eventually get the 1'x2' extension for both ends when the need arises.

 

I’ve got a pair of extensions as well and some fabsquares, im pretty set for and jigs I need to make.

Yes, a flat surface is very important.

I know how much metal moves around after it cools. A certified flat surface is not going to blow up my skirt.

Secondly, I like welding my work to the table. All those holes would irratate me.

 

I agree unless you have a real Platen Table but that is big bucks.

From what I see they seem to be getting phased out just us Old Timers still like them

 

I honestly didn’t care too much about having a ridiculously flat table, it was more about being able to easily clamp and secure things to the table to make them square and stuff. I use the table and clamps to build all my rock sliders and man does it do it’s job! Marketing ploy or not, the table is pretty damn cheap for what it is and comes as a super easy to build kit. You don’t have to cut a single thing or measure anything to put it together. Follow the instructions and weld it together and bang!

 

Got more practice in today while I save extra cash for the top of the table i wanna make.

Sooooo basically what everyone has always said...more expensive cut-offs will last longer. Cheaper ones will wear out faster but cost less.

But also just a "meh" test anyways. Would really need to try different materials. Thats a test thats a good generalization for that material. Would really need to test in different materials (hot rolled, cold rolled, aluminum, thick, thin, ect) to get a true representation.

 

If you are cutting aluminum, get an aluminum spec blade.. It makes a big difference.

 

Yup i have a couple but also dont do much Aluminum work either. Espcially in cheap or softer Al. Same I have a AL file for if i need too.

In an ideal world would have all sorts of materials for the different stuff. AL, Stainless, brass, bronze, Copper, ect. But not many home guys are going to invest in all that.

 

I normally go shooting on Tuesday nights, but last night I stayed home and practiced running some beads with my little mig! I do much better when I look at the puddle and not look at the arc. I practiced running straight beads on a piece of sheet metal and then even got brave and welded a few nuts and washers to it. Got a long list of potential projects once I get decent!
