Yeah we get that shit with ford, whole batch of alternators on the 5.0 F150 were going bad and Ford ran out, personally had 3 trucks that sat on the lot while owners were in rentals.

That happens with all manufactures using the 'Just In Time' process, the suppliers only ship enough parts to what is on the assembly line so they don't have to carry any inventory.

Ask the dealer to remove a unit from a truck on the lot. They can put the one 'on the way' in it, get you out of a loaner and have you moving.

(Doubt they'll do it, as it might hinder a sale. But you can annoy them by pointing out a good customer service solution)

I wouldn't ask the dealer to do that , this is not the dealers fault.

Back in the late 80s early 90s my buddy had a Pontiac LeMans that needed parts, the Dealer robbed parts off new cars because there was some kind of labor strike in South Korea with no timeline for new parts.

My two highest years of W2 were as a consultant to a company I had been laid off from (go figure!) working on the implementation of a Supply Chain software package. While power companies don't make material, they certainly use a lot.

The biggest challenge was how many poles/transformers/spools of wire to keep in stores during various months of the year. Like hurricane season.

No, you don't want a pile of stuff laying around. On the other hand, you need to be able to provide reasonable service under normal seasonal conditions.

There is no way in hell a dealer is going to take the ECU out of a new car on the lot. C'mon.

Agreed. Maybe. But more importantly, did you miss the "But you can annoy them by pointing out a good customer service solution" ? :D

This is true, but when the vehicles you are building all take the same part and everything stops because the part "just isn't there" is just proof that someone didn't do their job or they have a contract with a vendor who can't keep up with demand.
