Ok so tried the RedBreast 21 and it was good. A good amount of bite right when you take a sip (similar to 15 year, but goes down smoother). I liked it, but also tasted next to the Midleton Very Rare, which is beyond smooth. Made the RB seem like a $15 bottle.

Also got a bottle of Green Spot this weekend. Heard great things about it on here and finally found a bottle ($60).

Mighty impressive selection! I bet you'll have fun there.

I'm going to sound like a snob for a minute, but for the Nikka, they put "Coffee" Grain Whisky. It is "Coffey" Grain Whisky. It matters a bit because "Coffey" refers to the type of still used. In 1963, Coffey stills were imported from Scotland to Japan by Masataka Taketsuru which he used to make his grain whisky. Still in use today, I'm sure. There is a more detailed story, but the point being the type of still is reflected in the name of those whiskies. Spelling it "Coffee" suggests some sort of roasted coffee bean influence on the whisky, which it is certainly absent of.

I'll step down off my soapbox, now. :anonymous:

You ought to go in there, kindly notify them of the small oversight and explain the story in a friendly manner. It'll make the bartenders better educated for providing their patrons a more involved experience (I love hearing the stories behind whiskey/whisky) and they might give you a free pour for helping them out. :D

For what it is worth, I like the Coffey Grain better than the Coffey Malt ;).

That's pretty remarkable! You look like me and my Booker's .

All different private selections? I love exploring the nuance from barrel select to barrel select. I only have two different 1792 Full Proofs, but I was pleasantly surprised at the difference between them. Very cool collection of 1792s.

All different. Some store picks some private group picks. I’ve had over 50 different picks so far. I started with the very first single barrels selection that 1792 made available to the public and went from there. People sleep on full proof, and I’m glad. It means the taters have a while before fucking up mh favorite daily drinker.

Can't go wrong with 1792 FP. There are still some picks from last season hanging around in a few shops near me.

Now that SAOS is out of the question and OWA is a bitch to find, I just buy up all the FP.

And because of you fellow degenerates I HAD to use my 15% off coupon at Total Wine. Never had the Clyde or Henry but seem to have solid feedback for their prices! Eagle Rare was on my hitlist as well but they only had 1.75 bottles & my wallet had tapped out by this point. :spending: :drunk:

I couldn’t get down with Clydes apple flavor. It’s terrible imo. But Henry McKenna is a solid ass bottle.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, it's been crazy. Left my house at 6am and just got into my hotel in Dublin (Ohio) around 10pm. Flight delays, layovers, quick stop at the grocery store to pick up sone distilled water, etc. Dropped my bags in my room and hustled down to the hotel bar to grab a drink before they closed. Pretty meager offerings.

Anyway - yes, if you can get one for under $130 I'd appreciate it!

So I'm in Ohio this week for work. I found out before I got here they have some strange liquor laws like being state controlled, etc.

On my way to the hotel from the airport I stopped by a Kroger - this is a grocery store, which I did not know previously - to get some distilled water. They had their liquor separate from wine in a small room, with an attendant and register. How peculiar. I went in to check it out and talked to the attendant for a few minutes. Apparently what liquor can be sold is fixed, along with the prices. So no matter what store you go into that sells liquor, it is always the same price. I am completely baffled by this! Why?

The attendant mentioned they were a very large distributor and get pallets of liquor in on Tuesday is this very stores warehouse. It takes the guys a day and a half to unpack and separate it. This is relevant because he advised me to come back in Wednesday morning and they should have Weller in stock, several kinds of Weller. He had my attention! They have shelf space for Antique and 107. Fingers are crossed.

So they had a few things I can't get or haven't heard of. Stuff to consider if I can't fill up with Weller.

    Antique = 107 ;)

I just got a bottle of New Riff Single Barrel. Opening it this weekend for sure.

I've posted in the past how much I enjoyed that OF 1920.

There is a Kroger just up the road from me. I do most of my grocery shopping there. All I've ever known Kroger to be is a grocery store (can't sell liquor on grocery stores in Texas), so hearing people buying liquor there sounds so bizarre to me.

    Good luck Wednesday morning!

I'll check on that Macallan for you.

What?! Texas grocery stores can't sell liquor?! What the hell is going on in this country! It's like Texas and Ohio are communists... Lol. One of the groceries near my house has a bottle of Hibiki. The only bittle of Hibiki I've seen anywhere in 4 or 5 months. But they want $90 for it.
