Please report back because I was only going to do base 87 for max MPG but that might not be the case.

Just curious if anyone here not happy with the tip-in on the higher octane tunes (91+) is running 35's or larger tires. My truck has been at the fab shop for the last 3 months getting built long travel and I'm on 35" Toyo MT's running 1.04 with stock gearing. I drove it once recently with the 35's and surprisingly it wasn't that bad but have a set of Niro 5.29's waiting to be installed. Just wondering if the tip-in is less aggressive with larger diameter tires.

I have no discernible variation in MPG between 1.05 87 first version (pre-FM) and 1.05 87 performance.

The majority of my variation is actually due to warm up time. Its 17 degrees in the morning and I idle for 5 minutes and get 14s on the way to work. On the way home its 38 degrees out and I can get 18-19 MPG. It really has to do with how long until the truck gets to operating temp. Oh and I drive about 75-80 MPH on the interstate.

I never give up on figuring out problems and the downshift clunk was driving me nuts. I really didn't think it was due to matt's tune as i've had it across all of them. I finally got it fixed and hope this helps out others with the issue. I know about the low tranny fluid on these trucks with the trailer package and had the dealer check the level over a year ago but still had the problem so i decided to add 1/2 qt at a time to see if it did anything. After adding the first 1/2 qt, the clunk went away and has not come back. I only experienced it when the truck was cold and only did it once. tranny fluid expands as it heats up which makes sense why it did it cold. I would not recommend going higher than about 1 1/2 qts. If you still have the clunk and you put that much in i would say bring it to the dealer. Just wanted to share and hope it helps anyone else who hated feeling that clunk.

Forgive me if this was already posted, haven't been able to keep up with everything here. If I want to buy the tuning kit today, would I have to repurchase when the handhelds start shipping? or is there a way for me to go ahead and order the handheld?

I'm going to need you to tell this to everyone else with a clunk. I've been saying it for ages and no one will listen to me. it solves all kinds of weirdness with these trucks being even a 1/2 qt low.

The fill process is SUPER easy. I'm not sure why anyone is holding out on doing it, clunk or not. I'd rather know that its filled to spec based on all the vehicles that were underfilled from the factory. Much cheaper than a blown up trans.....

If I am reading correctly, transmission clunk is from under-filled and will show as under on the dip stick? or will it show as normal on the stick but in reality it is actually low? My truck has this issue too, just figured it was a part of the truck.

There is no dip stick. Oil level check on these ATs is complicated and dumb. I would bet money your dealer never does it at the scheduled intervals even if they are supposed to.

Just goes to show how little I have done to my truck, thanks Toyota Care... Why in the absolute hell do these trucks not have a trans dipstick???? Every truck I have ever owned has one, how else would you know what the level is and if it needs to be filled?

If you purchase flash kit you do not need a handheld, only need a windows laptop.

They can’t check it properly, it waist too much time. :rofl:The fluid has to be around 110 degrees, don’t quote me, for level check. Nobody is paying them to sit around for three hours while the trans cools off.

toyota has a sealed trans. its really not that big of a deal.

its easy. in the MT you just fill it until it comes out the overflow. done.

on the auto you have to overfill it a bit and then you warm it up and open the overflow.

its 5-10 minutes on either one.

this is exactly why they dont do it. It will be hot when you bring it in and they need to let it cool off before they can check it. it takes a long time to cool off.

Was looking at getting the handheld to be able to avoid the need to keep a windows laptop in the truck, the idea of being able to easily switch tunes and keep the device in the truck full time.
