Just curious about your reason for selling. Reading between the lines, all that I see is that you might want the Tech or Prem package(s)?

They upped production bud, hard to compare the two, different economy, market, production levels, etc.

Take a betting on one of the vehicles that has the best resell value in the industry? I'm confused.

Supply was never an issue for Tacomas. They're a mass produced vehicle that gets pumped out to whatever the demand is. 3rd gens are selling better because people want them more than they did back when the 2nd gens were out.

edit: I may be wrong on this.

I meant trading in a year old vehicle. Any time you do that you take a beating.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Toyota sets production numbers ahead of schedule not real time demand /sales. It’s how they maintain resale / value as a brand. Look how many 2015s sold, a 10 year old platform / design, they had no problem selling 2nd gens.

I disagree, Toyota wasnt pumping as many out back then. In the last month or 2 they have doubled production. Either way the resale just isnt the same on the 3rd gens. Believe what you want but a 2nd gen resale is way higher than 3rd. And with more and more tacos being sold as you say that will drive resale prices even lower because everyone and the brother has a taco.

Right, and if the demand showed to be higher than the supply, more would have been made in subsequent model years. Dealerships were not running out of Tacomas. They're a mass produced vehicle.

And why do you think they're ratcheting up production numbers so much? Because the trucks are in higher demand.

Ah! I see the sales tax hit to be a bigger deal if the particular state doesn't tax just the difference.

Now but once the market is flooded and supply is ample what do you think that does to the price or resale?...

I'm not arguing that it doesn't reduce the resale. Of course it does. I was merely commenting on the post about 2nd gens being more desirable. lol

I think resale is gonna be killed in these things. Seems like far too many people buy them and then get out of them. It’s probably the most like design and most hated model. I know I’ll take shit from that but a lot of people just ain’t happy with the powertrains. I still don’t understand why they are pricing used ones so high. It’s all about supply and demand. The demand for a used 3rd gen isn’t very high it seems. Maybe I’m wrong.

Anyways with the buy back on the first gens and a lot of tacos lost to frame rot issues both first and (second gen) have cut those numbers down a bit. I would think that would only make the demand for those even greater. I can see the older tacos holding a lot more value than the 3rd gens. I think the market is going to be flooded with these and there won’t be a big demand. Not to mention now with other manufacturers back in the mix. That will also cut into both markets and hurt some of their resale value

The Golden Goose is about to get a bit less shiny.

Time will certainly tell. We're 4 model years in, with plenty of used ones available and, so far, they're still managing to be #1 in resale. It may be the same as the 1st and 2nd gens in terms of %, but it's still excellent for now.

I have owned 2 Tacos, both base SR5s with one being a 3.4l 5 speed, and the current one being a 4.0l 6 speed. If they stop offering a Tacoma with a manual transmission I will not buy another. I would switch to a Tundra. The manual transmission is the main reason I bought this truck and I love it. That's not to say every car is better with a stick, but the Tacoma has to have one to be worth driving in my opinion. These trucks are not very powerful, and so I like being able to keep it in whatever gear I want.

Throw it up for what you think its worth. If you get no offers you know you are off base.

Before you get too eager to over price your mods and MT, remember BBP is having severe paint failure issues. This may make a difference in value as well.

Actually these guys are right, even Seatbelt Mike has said the numbers sold were limited only due to lack of production and he convinced his bosses that increased production will equal higher sales.

Hey, if that's accurate, then I stand corrected. I just find it hard to believe that if they could sell a markedly higher amount, that wouldn't have pumped more out, like they're doing now.

The Tacoma was/has never been a major focus for Toyota as a whole, despite our little world here.

I had to drive out of state to find a double cab longbed TRD sport 4wd in 2015. Supply was limited.
