Went to lunch with my buddy in his new-to-him RS 5 and noticed the built in G-Meter in the dash... thought that was pretty cool...

Don't get me started down this rabbit hole. I'm of that past age where knowing your way around an engine compartment, competent at general maintenance and most options to squeeze that last ¼ horse out of an engine was SOP. I remember when the new J C Whitney catalog showed up and pages were dog eared like a Sears Christmas catalog after Thanksgiving (just proof read, good grief I'm old). SCCA Solo class winner once in our area was a significant event and still a matter of pride.
Tried to have a conversation last year with my 24 year old nephew about cars. He's clueless, other than ways to squeeze the last ¼ MPG out of a Prius via coasting/neutral shenanigans and the joys of nearly silent interior decibels. He's more excited about the latest iPhone.
I've seen the future. There's no place for me there.

I bet you know how to port & polish a flathead, too :boink:

In all fairness, so do I, and I'm 34...

I learned how to years ago and I've only done it once since then
It's definitely an art form, and if you don't know what you're doing you can pretty easily make things worse than they were before you started

Interestingly, the current theory on it seems to be that you're better off skipping most of the polishing stage; apparently a little texture improves the flow of air. Kind of like the bumps on the surface of a golf ball creating surface turbulence.

    Agreed (art).
Was with a friend to pick up a lawn tractor engine he had rebuilt. The shop had two crate engines in house, one had heads on the bench partially polished. If I'm honest.......I pee'd just a little. The only thing I've seen that beautiful was the small of my wife's back the first time I saw her in ......... I digress.
Somewhere in my appreciation of the polishing job (yes, back on engine topic here for you guttersnipes), the owner did mention that the glass smooth, mirror finish was detrimental to fuel atomization/emulsification, but old habits of hot rodders die hard. That engine was destined for a '55 Nomad. Functional/smunctional, I vote for art. Why I have to stop and admire every rear engined European supercar with clear panel over the engine bay.
:hattip:Admire your hands-on knowledge, pass it on before you do.

One of my dreams is to someday be able to build a flathead V8 powered car, and somehow put clear heads on it. The car nerd in me feels like that'd totally be worth having to pull the heads and clean them every time I took it to a car show

Mostly for a rust-free car/truck to start with (and the $$ to buy it, haha!)

    Back to the porn...
