We have a 2012 Honda Civic Automatic and it seems I always have to be hitting the brakes and the overdrive keeps going after you let off the throttle - very annoying. I like how my stick Tacoma slows down when off the throttle and can gear down - probably brakes will last 3 times as long plus it is great on gas. The Honda Automatic had better gas MPG than the stick as advertised but I think that is a load of bull. My stick shifts have always been more economical than Automatics but if I had a lot of different people driving my vehicle , I would buy an automatic. The biggest problem with a stick is that probably around 90% of people would not buy it but I keep my vehicles for a long time and know how to service sticks as I don't like to depend on the dealerships for constant upgrades.

My first car was a 88 Mustang 5.0 with a 5 speed. Pretty much daily drove a manual or had a mustang with one for 20 years. Now when it came to buying my new taco over a year ago i purposely got an automatic, i was so tired of dealing with Orlando's terrible stop and go traffic with a manual.

This is so true. I have always been a bit of a Mustang geek and remember when the auto sucked so bad for years. Around 2011 when they came out with the new mustang they used a Getrag (POS) transmission and they have had problems since. Now the auto is faster AND the more reliable choice because for some unknown reason they can't put the proper transmission (the Tremec from the gt350....so perfect) in a 55k loaded gt.

Similar thing when I was a Jeeper, FCA can't seem to manage synchros and forks so lots of people who would like an MT are pushed away from lack of focus in the development of MT's. Jeeps have always been a go MT or go home crowd but that has even shifted at this point.

I like tech in vehicles but not at expense of things sucking that were fine for years.

I don't know how to drive a stick. My parents and friends all had automatics growing up, so I never learned. I tried once or twice but kept stalling out.

I'm ashamed. Here's my man card... :spending:

Like the other old guys said we grew up with them . 3 to 4 hundred HP and some with more , 4 speed headers and big carbs . Rear wheel drive better hold on machines . I like manuals but would not have one for a daily . Why --- cause we had to have them in the old days , it's nice now to not . muscle car , hot rod , off road truck , work truck all good manual.

    Still stock completely capable!
Always drove a manual. I currently also still own a 4xx whp caliber srt4 6speed which has a heavy ass stage 4 racing clutch. That was the main reason I decided to grab an auto Tacoma. I spend a lot of my commutes to and from work in heavy stop and go traffic, I did it for 3 years in the caliber and when I got my Tacoma just needed a break. I do regret it some times BUT I play to get a FJ cruiser soon for a fun alternative vehicle and I WILL be getting manual 100%!
