I traded my 2017 Honda Ridgeline Sport for a new 2018 Tacoma TRD OR a couple months ago. I really don't have anything bad to say about my old Ridgeline. I loved how it drove and the AWD system was great. The swinging tailgate and the in bed trunk was very useful. Towed my boat with no problem. I really liked all the room in the back seat and how the back seat folded up. The rear doors sucked when they opened though. It was hard to fit anything of size to fit through the rear doors. Low ground clearance and not meant to go off-road. It was for sure a city rig and not a truck. I never broke 20 MPG and averaged 18 MPG.
I only thing I can complain about my 3rd Gen is the leg room for the rear passengers. You all own a Tacoma so I really don't need to list off all the great things the Tacoma offers. I have read many posts by members with their issues on their 3rd Gen. I haven't had any issues so far and I hope I don't. I love this truck and I'm glad I switched over.

4x2 hemi. Tacoma is way smaller but not really a problem for me. I have a 10 month old and a 3 year old and they fit fine in the back. Its smaller and less powerful no doubt but its not really a big deal for me. I was so sick of driving that big thing around everywhere. Really enjoy downsizing and being able to park anywhere and go anywhere and putting it in the garage. Being able to reach into the tailgate from the ground is freaking great also.

New truck vehicles prices are insane.

Really loved that truck. Had plenty or power and drive smooth. Tons of room. I leased it so couldn’t see taking another loan out on it for 5 more years. Sticker was 50k but with only ~30k on it it was worth around 30k. Sucks they don’t hold their value like a Tacoma. Anyways was looking to get into another one but the payment would of been higher and the truck just didn’t have nearly the options that my current one had. Ended up buying a Tacoma and saving $100 a month. Tacoma isn’t nearly as powerful (obviously). Has been getting worse gas mileage, and isn’t as comfortable or as fun to drive. It’s not a bad truck but I think I just got a little too spoiled with the F150. Debaiting on wheither or not I’m gonna pull the trigger on another full sized, or just maybe keep the taco for the long haul. As far as value you can’t beat a Tacoma.

2001 Toyota Tacoma TRD - bought used in 2005, drove for 10 years, sold in 2015 - loved everything about that truck except the rotten frame. Sold after frame swap.
2015 GMC Sierra 1500 All Terrain - loved the comfort, roominess, towing - too many mechanical issues (ball joints, HVAC failing...twice)
2019 TRDPro - love almost everything about it. Things I don't like I'm changing (RCI sliders, SSO slimline bumper, larger tires) - modding the truck is half the fun.

09 2500 duramax ltz with a deleted exhaust and custom tune. seriously miss that truck. had to downsize cause i moved to a city and parking was a huge issue. i do like my tacoma. its fun if you dont mind having to put your foot so far in the throttle and fits my needs for now but doesn't come close to the power, towing, comfort on long trips or even the economy i was getting.

I had a Ford F-250 which for pulling a travel trailer was great. I have no complaints against the truck. I just chose to go to a Class C Motorhome and didn't need the large truck. I have always been a Tacoma fan with several that I owned as well as a 05 Tundra.

I went from the FJ cruiser. The most annoying things about the FJ were the small 19 gallon gas tank I was lucky sometimes to get 250 miles of range, it was very annoying. The gas mileage on my v6 auto taco is way better, and combined with the 21 gallon tank I get 350+ miles range before fill ups.

I really like having 4 full doors instead of the suicide rear doors, it was super annoying getting kids into the FJ in a park lot or parking garage.

I do think the tacoma is alot louder on the road I can hear the tires and rear diff, plus wind noise especially if I have no music on or if I'm listening to podcasts.

I really like the visibility of the tacoma, the FJ you don't even need to bother checking the rear view mirror you can't see anything. Of course the bed is a plus because even with the seats folded down it was hard to fit everything in the FJ.

I do with the tacoma had a full rear window that rolled down out the way.

I also miss having a full size spare, i'm not sure what it's going to be like when I have to put my factory spare on while i'm running 285's.

I came from a 2005 nissan xterra SE.

Honestly, I prefer my old truck in almost every way. Transmission was no nonsense, never hunted, easy to drive on the highway etc. The interior was very similar on quality, but it felt MUCH bigger inside and was much more comfortable for long road trips. Offroading was very similar. I had my nissan for 10 years, 150k KMS. I replaced the brakes and the battery. regular maint - oil changes, fluid flushes, tires.

So far I have had the tacoma for 7k Kms and I have replaced the rear drums, the rear wheel bearings, rear wheel spindle, had the transmission reflashed (3rd year of production, not acceptable). It has spent a total of 20 days in the shop in just under 6 months of ownership.

Whats funny is I remember saying to my sale guy when I was leaving with my brand new truck - "see you in 10k KMS for my free oil change!" - turns out I have seen him 3 times in less than 7k KMS. I am counting down the days until I can get rid of this pile of crap. /rant.

    2015 Jeep JK. 2-door.

    Price: Nearly identical, aprox. $24.5K.

Driving Experience: JK's 3.6L was excellent, and it handled like a stadium super truck at it's cornering limits. But due to NVH, any travel time over 30min the tacoma wins hands-down.

    Gas Mileage: Tie.

    Interior: Tacoma.

Offroad: Jeep's BLD is outstanding in 4LO, but the tacoma with 6112/5160's takes the win for anything over 25mph.

Had a 2016 Tundra, had the bright idea to downsize because I didn't "need" the full size. Tacoma drives like shit compared to the Tundra, should have never had that bright idea.

That was the upscale model! I had the in between SXT. It was an ok car. Handled like a teen in heat and got great gas mileage. For 23 grand though and compared to my Tacoma, it smacked the Tacoma like a bitch in the interior and feature department.

    I had an 07' Tahoe
It was a great truck, a dog on gas, my Tacoma gets about 7 to 8 miles better, just in town.
My Toyota has much more tech and I think it just drives and rides better all the way around.
No major complaints about the Tahoe though, miss it every once in a while and I thought about just keeping it...oh well.

I agree the Tacoma is much better looking. Curious why you made the switch, and if the ride was much different with the Ridgeline car-based chassis?

Truck was a beast....had absolutely no business owning after deciding to wait 5 more years for a travel trailer. I haul kayaks, Honda rancher or a zero turn. My trailer is a 5x8 tilt. The power was great, the gas mileage is better in the Tacoma. The interior is about the same for me. I had what I needed in the GMC, I’ve got what I need in the Tacoma. Off road, easily the Tacoma. I’m very pleased with my Tacoma, no regerts here! I’ll own a big truck again one day....and it will be a GM!

I had an 07 DCLB Silver Mica Sport, only 140,000km on it. Loved that truck and was planning on driving it till their was nothing left of it, I kind of did i guess. Was in an accident and it was written off. Upgraded to a 2018 DCLB magnetic grey metallic Sport.

    Driving Experience -
Doesn't drive a whole lot different than the last one, cabin noise in significantly quieter in the 18'. I've read a lot on here about the tranny issues guys are having, so far haven't noticed anything odd. Drives like the 07 with an extra gear. The 18' has got more get up and go when you give it some pedal for sure, also love the ECT button.

Gas Mileage - Right around the same as the 07, but slowly getting better. Only 2200kms on it so far.

Interior - I miss the simplicity of the 07 but it would be hard to go to that after having the new one at the same time. Again cabin noise is huge difference.

Offroad - 07 was great never did anything serious, I'm sure this one will act the same.

Reliability - Had zero issues with the old one, hoping this one proves to be the same.

Overall - Wish I still had the old one, mostly because it was paid for long ago. I'm really happy with the 18' sometimes wish I went with the short bed, mostly just because this one is still stock and they look a little long when stock. Found the short beds to ride fairly rough compared to the long bed. I plan on keeping this truck for a long long time which in the end is why I went new, and I'm sure it last a long time and be just as reliable as previous generation Tacos.
