I'm daily in food service. Shit tractors aren't dependent on the gear box for the most part in my world. More about which old fuck had it when brand new

Rocks is weight. I feel ya. Sometimes, shifting matters. Hah

I went a couple years between truck jobs. Probably 5 years since I dailied a manual. Drive test for the new gig at the time, I kept apologizing to the boss for the shit I was doing to the tranny. Rusty as f

Learned to drive stick at 15 (I’m 17 now) in a International Tractor trailer me and my dad fixed up.
My first truck was a 06 5spd 4x4 tacoma. I sold it and have regretted it ever since.
I would die to have another manual transmission.

Really, not standard? It will roll backwards without the grinding?

I actually have not noticed. I have driven the car 99.9% for work on the same flat stretch, so I guess if it does, I haven’t had an opportunity to see it

Ah- it doesnt take much. Have to stop, hold the brake and put it in reverse to bypass it. Then put it back in D to continue. Dangerous as all heck if on a steep trail!

They’re saying above that the OR doesn’t have it standard... maybe mine doesn’t

I actually learned to drive in a manual. I think it's a worthy skill to know, but after dealing with the garbage that was the 6 speed in my FJ, i'm in no hurry to go back to one. I still think a manual isn't what it used to be due to technology and emission regulations, but i'm glad people still buy them.

If Toyota announces they are going to stop selling sticks, i'd be in line to buy one as i'd like my boy to know how to drive one as well when he is old enough.

I haven’t driven a stick on a newer model. How does it feel with an electronic throttle? I’ve only ever driven non fly by wire

Sorry to hear about your FJ's manual. My 2007 has been stout and solid so far.

Laggy. You can adjust for that though somewhat. Rev hang and throttle lag make for a miserable combination compared to the old days imo though. It used to feel so much more direct.

I learned to drive a manual on a 1956 F100 on our farm, hauling hay and dirt and feed and lots of other less auspicious things....the first car I drove (legally) on a highway was a '73 Ford Pinto; it came with two features, one being a manual only transmission, and the other was an exploding gas tank.

Even my first police car - an elderly Ford Fairmont - was a manual....

I appear to have gotten lazy over the intervening decades
