    I've seen busted AN-124s all over the place. Just like the C-5, it takes a lot of effort to keep them flying. Hats off to the mechanics who fix those things - they're the unsung heroes here.

    My brother was a flight engineer on FREDs (fucking ridiculous economic disaster) for 8 years, and was part of a 22-ship mission into/out of Kandahar with C-5s. 22 birds in, 22 birds out. It was a C-5 war zone miracle.

    What they didn't advertise is that they were packing enough spare parts to almost make a 23rd C-5...and something like 17 birds actually left Diego Garcia. He said it took weeks for all the birds to get back home.

    I remember when my dad was a Sqdn CC at Travis, the -10 guys made a fuss in the wing king's weekly staff meeting to brief first because the -5 squadrons maintenance issues would take up like 90% of the meeting. :rofl:
