Loved it still, like an abusive relationship. I just should have gotten the 5 speed auto.

We're just getting ready to finish the lap and restart the timer for the next lift or oil thread.

I have been seeing some form of that question since about 2005 when the 2nd Gens came out.

I learned to drive a stick in a 1960's Ford bread box Econoline Van. First 2 cars I bought were both 4 speeds. A 68 Fire Bird and a 69 SS Chevelle.

My cousin worked at a speed shop and set the Firebird up to be most fast. He put a 3 Finger Clutch in it that was a nightmare to drive on the street. When stopped at a light you HAD to put that bitch in neutral. I dealt with it a couple weeks and put a good old Diaphragm back in it.

Only pic I have of it.

    Stock and staying that way
I learned to drive in a Ford truck with 3 on the tree, and have driven a couple few hundred thousand miles in vehicles with manual transmissions.

While my Trans Am has a 6 speed manual, I prefer automatics at this point in my life.

Here's one for you to ponder (or laugh at, more likely):
My '79 Camaro that I mentioned earlier - automatic with the shifter on the floor. One day it goes bad - shifter cable broke, so the gearshift is just moving freely without engaging the transmission. I get it towed to a repair shop near the Applebee's where I bartended at the time, and the mechanic, who is a semi-regular at the bar, tells me "well, I can cut you a deal, but it's still gonna cost you a couple hundred bucks to fix it, or I can show you a trick so you can keep driving it, no problem" Of course I chose the latter.

Even though the shifter was on the floor, in what I guess was a remnant from days gone by where shifters were on the column, there was a ring around the steering column that could be used to engage the transmission. I had to reach through the gaps in the steering wheel, grasp the steering column like I was strangling the damn thing, and rotate that ring - presto - gears change. The only trick was remembering the correct sequence of gears, but that wasn't difficult. I drove it that way for two years, before the car essentially fell apart around me and I could no longer MacGuyver the thing to keep it going. Oh, and before anyone asks, my ghetto shifter did NOT attract any extracurricular ass. lol

I’ve done the stick thing for 25 years. Decided to try the auto thing. Not sorry.

It’s all personal preference. I’m not gonna be an elitist who says one is better than the other.

I’ve only driven a manual car a few times, but I had a motorcycle in college and it was a blast. Kawasaki Ninja 250. It had a 6 speed transmission and a 14,000 rpm redline. Now, at 34 years old, I would consider a manual Tacoma but I drive Uber and Lyft. A manual would be too much work on top of driving rideshare in the Denver area.

There is a lot of confusion about who has it and who doesn’t on that other thread I posted!
