Im having a really hard time realizing that this truck isnt being built (right now) to the extent that my other truck was built. I keep wanting to use the best rock crawling parts for my camping rig. Im going to wind up with one hell of a camping rig though. :yay::thumbsup::dancingbacon:

Compromises with shackle flip can include making the springs go more negative arch than stock depending on if you modify the bump stops, using up spring rate from shackle angle so not great for heavy rigs, and a bit more sway for towing, and also trying to achieve optimal shackle angle. Most people think lift is a negative as well.

I noticed that the Hammer hangers have a better ride quality than my shackle flip with stock springs. The HH rule for ultimate ride quality with SOA springs. (Only exception seems to the mid travel SUA HD springs)

The shackle flip is comparable to the Toyota Hilux and old Landcruisers and Land Rovers, rigs that have proved themselves over the decades for durability and bashing, so I personally think its better to whack a spring on a rock than a hanger, since spring is moveable. But the Hammer hangers are the next best thing and no one has told me they hurt one yet, and I think the current design is very tough and

I'd only recommend the shackle flip over HH for lighter rigs that focus on rock crawling and articulation.

I currently just have the ToyTec 3 leaf AAL in the rear with my stock springs. I do have a shell, a platform and a plethora of tools and camping gear in the back though. Dont know the weight but I think my rear height is 22 or 22.5" hub to fender. I could use more articulation, though I really dont want to go any taller than I need to.

Rock crawling is what my heart and mind want to do when I take this truck out but it is a DCLB so I have to extra picky about my lines. Its main purpose in life right now is to get me to remote places to camp and also climb over a few rocks on the way there.

You wont be sorry with HH, and I recommend that for you. You'll enjoy the ride quality improvement on your way to and exploring remote places

I definitely have these in my future but I want to do new leaf packs at the same time. So, Ive got to figure out where this sits on my truck priority list. Id say it is moving on up though. I will be sure and give you a call to pick your brain on the set up when I am ready to pull the trigger. Thanks for the help!

    Stock....ish
You'll be able to get places with these. I bent my stock ones on the Rubicon. The HH paired with a shock relocate work great. As you can see I got carried away with my build when I should have focused on my 1st gen runner.

Yeah, the aftermarket springs will get you droop with HH and seem to pull 12" travel easy with HH. The stock springs are low arch and don't gain much droop.

Was about to ask that question, have a pile of parts to install after 7 weeks of work trip and that would be an excellent addition

I have those same bump stops and at ride height they are maybe 1/2" from the frame, maybe. I havent seen another 3rd gen with them. How much gap do you have at ride height and what springs are those?

sooooo... what you saying is shackle or flip? o_O

my situation is kind of like the one guys you posted just there but I don't really want to crawl so to speak. I just want to get out in remote places and get over obstacles in the way.

after reading Shay's input I really am leaning hard to hangars for the added protection and the cross member is another plus. I am currently running a 6" rough country lift and want to throw that trash 4" spacer block sitting under my leaf pack out, get custom 4" deavers and some 6" fox 2.5 shox w/rr to add in with some bumps as well. just trying to decide what exactly will work for my set up.

that is my plan as of now if it sounds like itll work lemme know I see a lot of your posts on TW and you seem to be an expert of the matter. thanks @EatSleepTacos

    @ARCHIVE what are your thoughts?

Thanks @EatSleepTacos for helping to answer.
Mug, HH all the way. The Archive Dual sport springs are a perfect replacement for the 4" block on BDS/Fabtech lift https://archivegarage.com/products/archive-tacoma-spring

oh nice! these look like they will easily maintain my ride height as well! and the weight rating is good on these so if I add a HC bumber/swingout it wont sag?

They are not intended as a heavy weight spring, but should hold 4" lift with rear swing out bumper

But I also plan to make an extra leaf available to boost the capacity for additional weight.
