I think you mean boost machine. The 5vz heads don't take much torque at all, only 25 ft lb and 180°. Surprised that holds, even the 3rz is more.

The substantially weaker but more powerful in stock form VG30DE has 8 though... One of the reasons it doesn't hold well over 25psi

 

the 5vz can do da boost. just watch me! lol. Really that torques low? by the standards of what ive worked on in the past its pretty damn tight

 

what size are the large bolts? 11mm?

 

10mm but they aren't TTY. 47ftlb and some degree afterward that I forget off the top of my head for torque

 

ah TTY bolts are really an interesting thing. lol our engineer went over the whole reason theyre used.. now for boosted applications where LOTS of boost is to be, theyre not ideal... Ive got the ARP head studs for the 5VZ. well see how they hold up.

 

I was gonna get the ARP studs for the VG but people are making well over 600hp with stock head bolts just fine. So I'll hold off until I build a VG33 for it

 

i may use this spare 5VZ as a test mule for stupidity... If i can get a normal sized turbo for cheap..

 

The HX turbos are cheap always

 

might just yolo that engine when its been used for the cams. lol 262k and the blocks pretty rusty.

I'm impressed you got the damn things off without breaking any of the clips...I've removed my flares a couple times in 2 years and have to buy all new clips each time lol

Luckily my local pep boys a few blocks away usually has them in stock

 

ive created a life time supply... lol toyota supplies frame swaps with them.. no clue why, you dont need to take the flares off.

 

pfft... what you talking about? lol. most of them have half the tab on one side broken. They always break. Those clips from Amazon (from the snorkel install thread), really impressed. I ordered a second box knowing I was going to pull all the flares off at some point.

Are the red different from the blue at all - I haven't looked at them close enough

ahh yeah I took mine off last year to try freshening them up with the heat gun method... it looked good but didn't last very long (even with somewhat regular waxing) so now I'm looking to paint them. But, I'm undecided on what kind of paint.
