Alternative to extended 5100s...

Hey guys,

One of my rear shocks is leaking pretty good so I've been doing some research on getting new ones to replace the RCD/Bilstein extended length 5100s (f4-be5-b110-t5) which I got from Marco when he worked at DSMS. I know there are a lot of threads regarding the extended 5100s but most of those are just about if they'll work with their set-up.

These are the specs on them...

Extended Length: 27.28" Inches
Compressed Length: 16.34" Inches
Travel: 10.94 Inches
Valving 255/70

Can anyone confirm for me before I start shopping around for new shocks if these are the correct 5125s I should order if I just want something similar to the extended 5100s only with softer valving??

Extended 25.93"
Compressed 15.91"
Travel 10.17"
Valving 160/70

If not, then what do you guys recommend if I didn't want the extended 5100s again? Only have the TSB AAL and an additional 1.5" AAL in the rear.

Do you just mean TSB leafs with a 1.5" AAL? regular 5100s will work if that's the case.

Yeah that's what I meant. I wonder why the extended 5100s were recommended to me years ago by DSMS when I was going back and forth with them.

 

No idea, but after a certain point all tacomas were made with the 3+1 leafs AKA TSB leafs. I had those and a 2" AAL on my truck with regular 5100s and never had a problem.

 

You could do OME nitrochargers as well if you wanted something different. Probably a little more expensive though.

 

I have regular 5100s with tsb pack and 1.5 AAL and it rides and functions beautifully.

 

I recently purchased a set of used set of the dakar

Old Man Emu CS047R Leaf Spring

cs047r, I plan on taking out the third leaf and don’t plan on doing a U bolt flip or shock relocation. I was wondering for those of you that have done this and went with a longer rear shock, what shock did you go with and exactly what bump stop setup did you use so you don’t over collapse and blow up the shock? A link to the bump stops would be awesome as well

 

I had this set up and did the b110, and got bumps I kept stop bumps. I did limit uptravel by 1” to keep from bottoming out. I bolted a hockey puck to the frame where the bump hits, because it’s exactly 1” thick. Works great.

Don’t forget you’ll need longer brake lines with that set up.

 

So did you keep the stock bumps and add the puck or go with a longer aftermarket bump and add the puck?

 

Stock bump with hockey puck for the cheapest option. Wheelers super bumps work without pucks if you want to avoid them.

 

So as long as I limit it by 1 more inch over stock then I should be good.
