Can any of you lovely folks with BP-51's on your truck do me a HUGE favor and take some pics of how the rear resis mount up to the truck? Pictures of the brackets themselves and/or a description of how it mounts to the frame would be awesome too. Is there drilling involved??

I am trying to work out a similar mounting setup with a different brand shock- I really want to mount the resi in that same spot, right above the bump stop strike plate.

I am pretty sure OME sells the mount kits individually too so I may just end up buying one and modifying it to work.

Alrighty, I measured the factory preload and both were around 7mm. I called ARB today and they said that's how their updated coilovers are shipping now.

Not sure what I'm going to set them to, but I'll report back as soon as I install.

Alright guys. Just a follow up post in my current front settings of 13mm on both sides with a 1/4 inch spacer on the drivers side. I have ran this for the last couple weeks. Still sitting even and truck rides probably smoother than I have ever run it since 2017. Weight in the front is a SSO slimline bumper, smittybilt winch, trd skid, and roof rack.

Again super happy with this setup after a few different combo tries of me pulling, readjusting preload, and testing. Think I will keep this setup for awhile and if down the road want to readjust the preload again will do. But for now this is a nice combo for me. Smooth but not too soft.

    You rock! :thumbsup::cheers:

See I didn't realize without a close up shot that they are angled in slightly towards the frame, and with a longer resi that's not gonna work.

You saved me about $100 and a lot of frustration my man, I am very thankful.

Which Dakar rear leaf kit do you have?

EL095R (“Medium Duty”) or EL096R (“Heavy Duty”)? And then you eventually added a leaf to the kit?

It's disappointing to hear they still aren't compensating for the taco lean in any way. I had mad lean and ended up with a 3/8" spacer and 20mm preload on drivers side and 15mm preload with no spacer on passenger just to get it level. Keep us updated on the stance please.

I'm still in the mindset that because these are bypass shocks with variable rates depending on the position of the shaft we should target a specific (but unknown to us) amount of shaft exposure when mounted. (giggity) The preload should be adjusted to achieve this measurement. Then spacers should be used to account for taco lean.

    Am I wrong?

I dunno it really looks like they are pointed inwards to me. @-40 if you could comment??

    This is my current setup:

And while it clears everything just fine that noodly pigtail on the line and the fact that I have to shove on it and get on that clamp hard just... bugs the crap out of me.:annoyed:

You are absolutely right about the damping on bypasses. However, I think with 2 different corner weights you'll find that getting the same amount of shaft exposure means 2 different preloads (amount of threaded collar exposed) and you wouldn't really need spacers.

Awesome man, can’t wait to hear. Do you have additional weight up front (bumper, skids, sliders, etc.)?

I just got my kit and am trying to set the right preload before I install.

Beautiful Taco, love what you have done to it. I apologize- I have not read all 20 pages of this thread so maybe this has been covered, but are your sliders the "regular" sliders or the "Super" sliders from Rocky Road? I love the tucked in look of them and not really looking for something that sticks out too far. Also, any opinions for or against the sliders so far?
    Thanks, Dan.

Not sure if you are talking to Wildpeak...aka Drew...but he is long gone. I bought his camper shell back in 2017 when he was selling his tacoma to get a Power Wagon. I met him in person and he was parting out everything off of the truck before selling it. He did have a nice truck though and took that thing all over rocky terrains testing wildpeak falken tires. This thread was definitely one of his biggest contributions to Tacomaworld.

It's difficult to account for taco lean from a manufacturer when every truck is different. Any suspension that is sold to the market will require tweaking according to ones personal truck. What's nice about this suspension is that preload can be adjusted (different on each side) to account for the lean whereas many other suspensions can only be supplemented with spacers to even out the sides. What wildpeak did was he kept the same 1/4 inch spacers on both sides and made different preload adjustments for the given weight of the front end. This compensated the taco lean. I tried Wildpeaks method at first but then later changed my setup and decided to keep the preload even (13mm) and then used one 1/4 inch spacer on the drivers side. This is another method other suspensions out there do. I liked my method because my truck feels softer up front over bumps. This has me now netting even in the front from side to side and the fronts about a quarter inch lower than the rear which is what I wanted. Now when I have all my gear in the back I actually sit completely even on all four corners. Again every truck is different as some people need to make rear adjustments for them to sit even side to side. Whereas, I was lucky enough to have the rears being even side to side.

Btw I'm running the full OME rear leaf pack with an additional AAL to account for my added camper and RTT in the rear.

Not sure what you mean by pointed inwards ? Are you asking if the rear end reservior is pointed inwards?
