Ouch! I would rather do it myself for about $20 and pocket the other $50.

I took my 3g runner for an oil change a few months back. $25 special they ran. They have this fancy checklist of inspected items. One of it, check all bulbs. I called bullshit because I knew one of my brake lights were out. Sure enough, the light was still out.

I asked for the manager and he profusely apologized. He gave me a free oil change.

Personally, unless it's easy to see/do, or it could lead to a lucrative service visit later (i.e. brakes), then they won't bother.

At 5k it is more than enough. I only wish I could find a local dealer that would do it that quick. Just because they take an hour, doesn't mean they are actually doing anything. My truck sat on the rack for 20 minutes unattended last oil change. I was there for over an hour.

Some of us live in buildings that doing a simple oil change out in the parking lot is not allowed.

And what kind of oil and filter you buying for $20.00?

I’m glad I went as I’m sure for warranty purposes you have to go to the mid mileage (5k and 15k) checkups. I noticed they did put a little air in the tires. Was at 32 psi and now at 34/35. So they did do something.

You can change it in the Autozone parking lot.
Then you don’t have far to go to recycle it.

Mobil 1 0w-20 and a Toyota filter. Mobil 1 offers $12 rebates a couple times a year so I pick them up at Wal-Mart for about $23 which works out to about $2.20 per quart. Bulk Toyota Filters are about $5, so that is a grand total of $18.20 for oil and filter.

It's worth noting for future readers/new Toyota owners that you have to buy 10 at a time to get that price....at least at the Stealership I go to. $8.99 (I think he said) for one...."or if ya buy a whole case of 10 I can give em to you for $4.50 each...so $45"....."well sign me up for 10 hoss, it'd be stupid of me to drive an hour both ways, every couple months, to buy one filter for twice the price"

You can also get them on Amazon, prices vary but I think I paid $25 for 5 filters last time.

That's not bad either. If I ever don't want to drive that hour, I'd be willing to order those...but I'm not paying double lol.

I will guarantee your front drive line zerk fittings will never be greased as a guard has to be removed to get to the rear one. This takes a few minutes in itself.

I usually do my own but 1. This truck is a pain 2. Its 10 degrees outside 3. My dealer is 1 hour away so as long as I was there for the 5K service I'll gladly pay the extra $$ for convenience.

No, you do not have to go to the dealer for anything ever to have them honor your warranty.

The dealership is also about 5 minutes from my house so worth it to me. Now I have record of the service as well.

Purpose of 5k check is for factory updates/recalls, etc for your VIN; plus fluids, tires. I always ask them to also check diff & tranny fluids which costs a modicum extra.
