Don’t apologize. It’s your truck, run 91 octane and fuck everyone here. Seriously, there’s no rules.

The same people in this thread are running 37” tires complaining about mpg. Or, running silly 6” lifts then saying don’t “waste” your money on expensive gas.

Once we figure out this pesky octane thing, can we talk about which oil brand is the best?

They dont have issues with misfires. They decided to look for them and found them. Now that they're in the back of their heads they have "issues" with them. Go look into the Gen 3 OVTune thread. "1 missfire every hour" or something like that.

I run 87 because thats what toyota recommends. I might start running 93 octane the OVTune I got has a specific tune for 93.

I object to being lumped into the above class of TW members :argue:... I only perform modifications that are; 1) practical, useful, and beneficial to me; and more important, 2) don’t permanently change the vehicle, and can be returned to stock without additional expenses. I’m just a simple guy, with complex ideas.

    Just jesting :duel:

35K miles in my truck says otherwise. 93 absolutely fixes my truck from the crapfest that is 87. The manual also says to try higher octane if encountering issues with the recommended regular.

Computers now control the antiknock . If the fuel is higher octane , the computer may not have to retard the timing as much , this may result in more power and smoother running etc. I run 91 0E but not for the power or smoother running because it runs fine on 87 and 91 octanes . I run 91 0E because I cannot get top tier 0E 87, and the truck sits a lot and I do not want worry about the phase separation with the E10 . I do the same with my boats and lawn equipment for the same reason.
If anyone's truck runs better on one or the other decide and deal .

What page? I've looked and all I can find is them recommending switching brands, not octane.

    https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM04017U/pdf/OM04017U.pdf

    Fuel information is page 635.

Like I said, you might have something wrong with your truck if higher octane fixes something. Higher Octane = less likely to predetonate in high compression engines. Everything else is "it feels better" or people who see octane booster for race cars and equate octane to performance.

This is only true if your car is knocking. You should get your car checked if its knocking on recommended gas, not up the octane.

yeah right why not go to the airport buy 100 octane with lead and no ethanol for $5 a gallon. Hate to tell you this but most race stuff burns alcohol because of the octane rating.

I do it each time I fill up for an accurate mpg reading. I don't go off the dash
