Yes, the shackle pin vibrated out. You may not remember but we stopped somewhere and it just had the hook and shackle hanging, minus the pin

I will definitely have to keep that in mind. That seems like a great option, albeit a little thick.

 

I wouldn't put any loctite or anything like that on a shackle pin you want to be able to take them off.

 

They're just chair pads you can get them in all sizes and thicknesses.

 

Pretty sure the isolaters for the shackles will fit on the hook, just a zip tie around it

 

No I was saying it'd be a permanent one, for the sole purpose of holding the winch hook, or hooking to myself on a double line winch pull. I'd use the other recovery point for if I'm getting pulled with a strap.

 

Gotcha, I don't know if I'd want a permanent one though.

I'm almost certain even with the red loctite it's reversible with a little heat.

Yeah it would be but after being exposed to grit, salts, water, plus being tightened down then possibly pulled on it'd be a bitch if not impossible to get off. I had to cut one off once because the guy tightened it down tight them pulled with it. Hence why they say not to tighten them tight when using to pull.

 

Yeah putting them under stress is what does it. We have to cut them off all the time. Of course, that's doing shit with them we shouldn't while they're on a hoe bucket.

Hmmm, I like that idea. I have a bunch of tiny earth magnets. I wonder if I drill into the fairlead, and glue them around it if it'd be strong enough to hold the hook. I would doubt it though because it's a heavy ass hook and would get thrown around a lot
