    Not mad, just amused by your observations and attempt at a back-handed comment.

    I learned on my fathers old car.. a 1989 mercury tracer sedan. the bastard child of the ford escort... clutch it had was slipping as my sister learned to drive on it before me. and my father had a tow hitch on it for towing my grandfathers small sailboat to the landing.. I learned to drive it myself.. it lasted about 2 weeks before the clutch gave out completely.. had a new clutch installed drove it for 8 months no accidents.

    I bought a 1999 honda accord with a 5speed manual (took a while to find a decent manual trans car). bought my 1974 CJ-5 with a 3 speed, and I wound up replacing it with a T-18a 4 speed granny trans. now i have the jeep 4speed... 2016 taco automatic 6 speed, and a 2013 mazda CX-5 automatic 6 speed (knees were getting BAD @30years old due to abuse.. so went with autos).

    I definitly prefer the control of a manual transmission, but for a DD I like the convenience of an auto and the stress it takes off my knees. if I ever build my garage, and get a 2015-current challenger/charger rt scat pack.. it will have a 6 speed manual...

    I read a study that from a fundamental genetic standpoint that manual drivers are more beneficial to the longevity of the human race, which is strange to me because they keep making automatics. It’s almost as if the human race has a death wish.

    I drove exclusively manual transmission vehicles for the first 10 years of my driving life. Since then I've had multiple secondary vehicles with sticks but my primary vehicle was auto. I leased my 19 Taco and have been going back and forth on getting a manual trans when this lease is up. I enjoy driving manuals however the auto trans is kind of a nice convenience feature.

    I taught myself at 15 how to drive a stick! Owned a couple s10s stick shift and a Honda. Fiancé was amazed when I told him I wanted to drive one of his trucks when we got together and he didn’t have to teach me!

    Right now of my three vehicles, not a single automatic transmission in the garage. 93 mustang 5sp (soon to be a six speed), 64 Impala SS 409/4sp Muncie, and the Tacoma. The two motorcycles are obviously not automatic either. I’ve had many more manuals than autos for the last 25 years and I’ve had to replace many more auto transmissions than clutches in the same time period. Guess I’m keeping this truck forever because I just don’t want an auto.

    I like having a manual because it makes me pay attention and plan ahead when I'm driving. I also like firmly grasping knobs and moving them around all willy nilly. Fkin deal with it.

    @presta24 can relate

    I'm a mechanic by trade and I work on everything from ATVs to construction equipment. We were BSing with one of the operators about the manual and automatic semis in the fleet. He said only real trucks have 3 pedals and a gearshifter and then started to go on about wannabe trucks (my X-Runner was parked nearby). I opened the door to show him the interior and gave him the biggest grin as I told him thanks for calling my X-Runner a real truck. He stormed off and didn't talk to me for a week.

    When manual transmissions finally go extinct what will replace it as the reason your girlfriend breaks up with you when trying to teach them to drive one?

    633 votes, only 20 people saying they cant effectively drive a standard trans. Lots of liars here.

    It's probably pretty accurate as this is an enthusiasts forum, if you randomly asked 600 people out and about the results would probably be quite different.

    I've had quite a few vehicles in my lifetime (66 years old) but I've only owned 2 automatics. The first was a 1986 Monte Carlo SS T-Top and the other is my current daily driver (2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport).

    You can have the best of both worlds by running a full manual valve body in a auto transmission . And even better set up is a reverse pattern full manual valve body . In this set up it's ....
