IS, GS, ES, RX are a few. I had a 2008 IS 350 AWD, and still own a 2015 GS 350 f sport AWD. Same motor, as our 3rd gen.

Am I wrong, or doesn't this sound like the old-fashioned weak solenoid problem? A weak solenoid will have trouble pushing the starting gear into the flywheel gear unless the teeth are aligned just right. Once the teeth are engaged, the motor contact is made and the engine starts. But if the teeth don't engage, the solenoid just clicks feebly while the weak solenoid tries and tries again to mesh them.

Replacing the starter motor assembly fixes that problem because the solenoid is replaced, too.

You are not wrong, but on a relatively new truck????

Sounds like something that should be happening on a 96 F-150.

You have a battery connection issue, potentially a loose terminal. If you do not have a loose terminal you have an issue somewhere at a large junction connector, battery junction box, or interior fuse box. Start with the basics. Make sure the battery terminals are tight and make sure all those connections are fastened securely.

If his presets are losing memory it’s a connection issue. Make sure the battery cables are tight. If so I would check the main power going into the BCM. Big thick black cable 1 pin connector. Make sure that’s snapped in and maybe wiggle the cable around. If all is good you’ll need to do some trouble shooting. If it’s still under base warranty it’s best to let the dealer mess with it.

Just a thought maybe a bad key fob battery? I had a similar problem with a Fiat 500L. I actually replaced the car battery, which tested low anyway.

Had the same problem a couple of weeks later, and realized it would work with one key but not the other, therefore indicating a transponder issue.

    Bad ground.

And in most states, a defect that is brought to the attention of the dealer while in warranty is still covered under warranty until the defect is fixed. It's on the back of every repair invoice in the states with that provision in their civil code.

    Interesting. That's good to know.

It could be a bad ground on the battery or a bad lead to the starter. Either one will make an open circuit and remove power from the truck completely. I only say that because OP said his trip was reset when this happens. Unless the starter solenoid is in series with the positive lead on the battery then to the fuse box (and the solenoid is creating an open circuit) then I don't think the starter is an issue. I doubt the starter is wired that way so my guess is a bad lead on the battery.
