I am looking at either the Squad-Pro or the XL-Sport (they are similarly priced, specifically 497813 & 567815, both are amber driving/combo).

    https://www.bajadesigns.com/Science-of-Lighting/Lighting-Patterns.asp
This URL shows a light pattern (again both are "driving/combo") looks drastically different between these with one of the XL showing a 44 degree while the Squadron Pro shows 10 degrees. The actual description of the Squadron Pro does state 42 degrees. Is this just a typo or am I missing something here?

With this in mind, would it be a bad idea or just "less than ideal" to try and squeeze a pair of XL's on the oem fog light location?

    Regards,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for posting up!

The Squadron has a Driving/Combo pattern that consists of a 9° Spot and 42° Wide Cornering optics. Our XL has a Driving/Combo pattern that is 6° Spot and 44° Wide Cornering optics.

The upper 2 LEDs are Spot and the bottom 2 are Wide Cornering, This makes our Driving/Combo pattern.

    Hope this helps :)

Note: It's pretty close to impossible to fit an XL in the fog location

I'd say it would be pretty close to impossible to fit the XLs in the fog location. You'd have to do some serious modifications to get them in there and they'd look pretty out of place.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Glad I asked :)

With that in mind the problem I'd like to solve is to be able to drive at speed on good dirt roads/fireroads. 65-70 is on the faster side of how fast I drive even in daylight with perfect visibility. The factory lighting doesn't give me confidence for spotting anything on the trail before running into it anywhere near that speed. This is probably going to be a hard thing to necessarily quantify, but are the Squadron Pro Combo's a good fit for that? (Are we talking doable? sketchy? exactly what it's designed for? Would only drive at half that speed?) I'm definitely not attached to the idea of driving just as fast at night with good lighting, but would the Onx6+ (again combo) be a huge difference over the Squadron Pro's for this application? ....or would that be overkill?

My Taco has factory lighting and I'm really looking for a "single light" solution.

    Regards,
    Mike

The Squadron Pros in Driving/Combo will be an excellent start and under some conditions cover those speeds. If your truck is lifted, you'll be able to get more distance compared to a truck at factory height. Here is a pic of just one light:

A Pair is going to greatly improve your night driving experience. You will notice roughly 5x the usable light over OEM and will have a much easier time detecting obstructions on and off road.

Look at the amount of light the trucks run for events like the Baja 1000, then realize you want to drive almost as fast (but on better roads). I'd say you'd want multiple lights for multiple zones.

I'm not expecting the world for $400. You'll notice I mention I'm not attached the driving at the same speeds at night.

A good pair of Pros in driving combo would do well.

Of course, I also went overboard:

Oh, that doesn't even include the roof bar. But I agree. If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing

I actually won a set of Heretic Studios lights at a meetup raffle last night. But I sold them to a local guy so I could pick up some S2 Pros. Everything's gotta match yo.
