Just contact cement some rubber strips to the fairlead in the spot where you are most likely to store the hook under pressure.

 

I've never heard of that but it seems to be the answer. And if it gets fucked up, the fairlead was like $10.

Contact cement = Rubber cement glue. The same Shit us old school cyclists used to patch bicycle inner tubes. Apply to both surfaces. Let it dry until tacky and then attach. I have some bicycle tube you can use of you need it.
