ARP SC300 wheel studs mod

The oe studs bash out really easy. The only problem is the arp studs don't fit between the axle flange and the backing plate. You'll need to drill a 3/4" hole to slide them in. Next you'll need to make a spacer and use an old Toyota lug to pull the studs through and seat. Now i wouldn't recommend this with anything but arp hardware. Also lube the shit out of them so they slide in nicely.




Rinse wash repeat for the other side. The fronts are way easier just pound and seat the new ones

The gorilla et lugs I have will work with these because I run a 1/4" spacer however I'm gonna switch to open ended conical lugs for the methods just to be sure they're not just bottoming out on the stud

 

Any word from the machine shop?

 

Nothing yet, if I don't hear anything by mid next week I'll drop by and see how it's going. We've had a few snow days here I can see them being a bit behind

 

Super lame update time

I ordered some OEM hardware, mostly for my front skid but I also picked up two caliper bolts(the other one is on the truck) because I was still running the caliper bolt from the 85 lol that we slapped in there on the side of the interstate in Oakland. Also got some LCE flywheel bolts, nice that they come with red locktite on them already!!

Still working on the wire harness for the gauges. I finished adding all the arp studs and I'm also waiting on new brake shoes and hardware which should be here by Thursday. I've been picking up OT shifts instead of working on the truck lately. It's kinda hard to do some of the stuff without the engine. I'll probably blow the rad and the condenser out at some point but I can't do that till the truck is able to roll and for that one I need another set of pushing hands no way I'm blowing out years of dry mud in the shop.

 

Also it turns out you cannot buy the transmission crossmember bolts from Toyota they don't even list them. Nothing a trip to Fastenal can't fix though

Pretty much waiting on the machine shop, fixing a few issues here and there mostly cleaning, I've gotta figure out my exhaust situation. I was gonna remove the cat but now I'm thinking I'll just cut it open and gut it.. still deciding local PD have been after all things modified gotta look like I play by the rules lol

 

Made myself some pretty wire harnesses and got this thing installed. Can't finish it until I get power back in the truck. I'm still not happy with this pillar pod. But I'll have to live with it for now. Even more trimming took place around the grab handles, it's still pinching it so the bolt covers won't attach which bothers me

 

Thanks for the info on the pod as I am wanting one myself. Mine is '15 so I knew there would be fitting involved.
I like the look and functionality of it but wonder if it will block your vision any?

 

Not at all, I mean I could trim it more but the more i fuck with it the worse it gets, I already went slightly too far on the bottom hole. Just such a piss off, I may change it to steering wheel mount later but I liked the instant info at a glance I don't wanna be looking behind the wheel for info

 

Glad it does not block your vision and I agree this is far better than a steering wheel mount.

I know shops are busy now but did they at least call or anything?

 

I stopped by today, sounds like the engine should be ready for pickup late next week. Realistically I was told 10 business days. It's been 11, however can't count the day I dropped it off cause it was the middle of a 48hr snow storm, so knock two days off, a lot of the parts had to come from Toyota wearhouses stateside because 4cyl tacomas are rare here, which he told me about upfront, a lot of them came from Chicago which has had some crazy weather too. He's waiting on a couple more parts that should arrive tomorrow or Friday and then final reassembly.

 

I also got my exhaust solution sorted out. Took the cat section of the exhaust to a local shop told them I want the cats gone but I wanna keep the top bent and rear flange, but I'd like to add a resonator. 100$ + tax and boom done and done.

That’s cool at least they aren’t just putting you off.
I am a machinist and our shop builds for our shit and lots of times outside work seems to get skipped.
Weather has been crappy and chit is delayed all over.
Also did you ever think about a catch can to slow the build up?
I was looking but don’t think they are good in our below freezing temps?
Ha the exhaust are you staying street legal?

 

Ok so catch can on an NA vehicle is no bueno imo, cause all it does is catch moisture and it mixes with the tiny bit of oil that gets in there and ya it can freeze cause theres so much moisture content. On a boosted application absolutely catch can cause the boost can actually pressurize the system and the catch can will worth and little or no moisture has a chance to build up.

My truck identifies as legalish. By removing the cats I've technically committed a crime. But the local Buford T Justice's aren't the most savy sooo I'm gonna pass my resonator off as a cat because I've retained the O2 sensor I think it'll work if I'm ever asked. We don't have emissions inspections anymore. I'm being more green cause with plugged cats my truck was inefficient now that problem can't happen again lol

There's literally nothing you can do. Toyota used shit rings he showed me the rings actually when I was there, absolutely no retention left in them, they were totally worn out. He also mentioned that the valve seals were hard but thats not atypical of an engine this age but it may have been running hotter burning that oil so it could have accelerated the process.

 

So I’m guessing you didn’t go oem on your rings and pistons.
