If I couldn't come up with a way to have the winch hook sucked in, and it had to be hooked to a shackle, my next step was to come up with a sleeve to protect that outer 6" or so. I Was thinking that chinese finger wrap shit I use on wires sometimes.

 

True, but how cool would it look if he one mounted on each side of the real fairlead? Or on the hood!?

Could you plasti-dip it with the stuff you dip tool handles in, it or the fairlead?

 

That's actually a really good idea.

 

It is, I just don't think it'd be thick enough. I think some rubber strips glued to the fairlead here would be perfect.

Put it in an old gym sock and throw a zip tie around it. Problem solved. Plus it's another very cool way to use a gym sock

 

If you double dip like you double bump you could be ok. The rubber strips would probably work well though.

 

You dont want to know what he uses his other gym socks for...
