just got a 2009 access cab and wanted to try out xm, dealer gave me instructions - use the "am/sat" button to get the radio ID then contact XM, well the only thing the "am/sat" button does is turn on my am radio, I never get the Sat option, dealer is as confused as I am, any ideas? thanks

Does your sticker show it having the Premium JBL Stereo with XM Satellite and Bluetooth option? My XM radio was already activated on mine when I test drove it... I never had to do a thing, and I imagine it's supposed to come already activated IF you have the XM option from the factory. They include a free 3 month trial subscription, so I'm pretty sure all that happens is the dealer sends in paperwork once you purchase, which starts the trial. I got something in the mail about a month later from XM about continuining my service after the trial period.

hmmm.. that's odd. Using XM w/o activation you can still get a few channels. They are usually just preview channels. First thing I would do is flip through the manual and see how to access the XM radio. I don't have the stock setup, but I did put it with my Alpine headunit. Once you get that figured out, you should be able to hear the XM preview channels as well as your Radio ID number.

After you get that, call up XM and talk to some person over in India and give them your Radio ID #. They will charge you an "activation" fee and tell you to leave your SAT radio on for 15mins. After that you should have all the channels. Hope that helps.

Oh yeah welcome to Tacoma world!

I don't have the premium 6 disc stereo with bluetooth but I was told that the radio is satellite ready and I have the Sat/AM button and shark antenna, is there other modifications?

I think that the dealer got the best of you on that one. If you don't have the JBL then you have to have an XM receiver installed before you can access the SAT radio option. This is how it was explained to me and it makes sense. YMMV.

Does it have the actual receiver installed? Mine is XM ready too but when I took delivery is when we found that out....then I wanted the receiver to be installed but was waiting for it to come out. The dealer was unable to even obtain the equipment but I think it is available now. If its all hooked up properly you should be able to get the XM activated no problem. I cant wait to get mine!
