I ended up adding dust caps to my rear wheels like this:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/putting-front-dust-caps-on-rear-hubs.153430/

Found some on eBay for $12 for 2. Easy and don’t have to screw with center caps.

I pretty much determined to pick up some FJ Steelies. If anyone gets a lead on a decent price let me know.

Good luck. I'm trying to do the same. I've got some craigslist searches saved, and check car-part.com every week or so. car-part usually has someone that has them in stock, but most of the rims I've seen on there have been sitting outside in the salvage yard for 8-10 years.

They're pretty tough to find. I had to drive 3+ hours to pick mine up from @iwashmycar . Also I made an account on an FJ Cruiser forum and had a few leads so you may want to try that

Got my steelies on today. Everybody does black so I had them powder coated grey. I weighed the rims on a digital livestock scale and was surprised. The factory off road rim with center cap and no lug nuts or tire weighed 26 lbs. The factory steel wheel no center cap, lug nuts, or tire weighed 24.8. Surprised the steel wheel was lighter. Anyway I like the look. TPMS switched over to the steel wheels no problem. I used some black acorn style lug nuts because I didn't want to use the chrome ones from the off road rims. Tires are 265/75/16. Truck has a mild lift using Bilstein 5100"s, 885 coils, and a single AAL.

Bought them through the dealer at $90 each. Paid more than I should have maybe but I got them. Not the FJ steelies they are the stock ones for the Tacoma that have the one oblong hole.

This is correct, I'm looking for rims. I'll worry about center caps after.

Finally did it running wheelsandcaps.com 69392 wheels by Transwheel brand. All 16 holes no slotted hole by valve stem. They look better imo.
    16x7 wheels with front spidertrax 1.25spacers with k02 285 75 16 all around.

I'm a bit confused... which steelies?!

I'm looking to buy a set of 16" steelies/studded tires for my 3rd gen Tacoma to use for winter. I can only find the OEM spare steelies for about $105 new, local stealership wants $205 new! I believe I can get used/refurbished 1st or 2nd gen Tacoma steelies for about $55-$60 each. Having a very difficult time finding used 3rd gen steelies...

My confusion is with which steel rim will work best for my 3rd gen Tacoma? Will any of the earlier 16" x 7" OEM steel rims fit? Do they all have different backspacing?! Folks with 3rd gen Tacomas and steel rims, which ones did you end up going with and why? Oh, and I'm not interested in running caps or buying a set of 17" FJ steelies. Thanks!

I ended up buying 4 stock steelies from my local dealer. Brought the rims over to Discount Tire and had them mount up a set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs with studs in 265/75/16. Had 'em installed this morning, they ride great so far...

I really dig the Coopers, nothing wrong with them at all. I live up in the hills and we get very slick, icy conditions often in the winter/spring. Our road/bridge freezes solid for weeks at a time and the best tire for that situation includes studs. The Coopers alone weren't cutting it. I haven't been able to get up my driveway/drive to my house (new place/moved in last Fall) for weeks this winter already. I really wanted to just stud the Coopers and considered buying a second set for winter use only. In the end I decided I needed two sets of tires, one needed to be a winter tire w/ studs and I figured I'd give the Duratracs a try. Very happy with both sets of tires...

Stock steel wheels with bfg commercial t/a tires 265/75r16. Never had any issues in snow or mud. Got quite a bit this year in Maryland.

How much did they charge you per wheel? I'm looking to do the same.
