So you're getting that loud and sharp "PING" from the drivetrain too, even after replacing your u-joints? I wonder if maybe it's the carrier bearing then?

Mine is more of a high pitch squeal not necessarily a ping. It does it in 1st-3rd gear up shifting or down shifting and when I let off the gas

I wonder if that's more of the throwout bearing issue that these trucks tend to have, I have the chirp that happens when I let off the gas or sit and idle in neutral, but I've recently been made aware that the chirp in neutral is the input bearing and not the throwout one.

The 'ping' I'm getting is just a sudden and quick metallic sound

I had this exact issue and I pulled the drive shaft off and greased all of the splines and have never had the issues since.

Like how much more power we talkin? I’d think headers would give you more than doing all that. I just don’t like loud exhaust. Shit, running no cats, stock muffler and chopped after axel is too loud for me.

I have a ping that is getting worse. Going forward and then reverse makes it ping. And once in awhile I get multiple pings in a row as I take off. I replaced my rear u-joint and carrier bearing, that didn't help. I have checked my transmission mount and its ok. I have greased my front u-joint and double cardon joint and that hasn't helped.

Sorry, don't mean to dis your work, but my OCD kicks in with these, when the top bar doesn't run on the same plane as the lines in that panel. Even most of the aftermarket, fabricated bumpers have that out of alignment.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm getting, forward to reverse is the most noticeable and loudest 'PING' but I'm starting to get it when I accelerate at times, too. Damn...I thought for sure it was a u-joint issue but it sounds like it might be something else. Weird

Grease the slip joint in front of the rear u joint. You may have to take it apart to do it properly, as just pumping grease in the zerk only fills up the cavity but doesn’t force anything in the splines.
What you’re hearing, especially going from reverse to forward, is the dry splines binding and then releasing as the pinion tilts down then up.

Interesting, I'll look into that thanks...I defintely make sure to grease the slip joint zerk when doing the others but it makes sense that it could need a proper greasing. It does seem to quiet down some when I grease that zerk but comes back pretty quickly afterward. I've always been afraid of over greasing the slip yoke

Even if you grease it until it starts to push the yoke out, it may not be getting very much grease down the length of the splines (which are quite long).
I believe the factory uses a much heavier grease when they assemble it to keep it operating smoothly for longer. I just slap moly lube on it, seems to work.

Keep an eye on Crutchfield for "Open Box" or "Scratch & Dent" ones for a significant price cut. I just bought a scratch and dent Sony XAV-AX1000 for $70 off... https://www.crutchfield.com/g_462450/Android-Auto-Compatible-Car-Stereos.html?tp=72381&o=p

    What about bushwhackers? Fiberglass fenders?

    I have mods
Made some progress, made some mistakes but not the end of the world. Have to do some clearancing on the frame horns to be able to completely slip the bumper back on but fortunately it's mostly on the 1/4" plates that I added previously. I also forgot about the shrinking effect when the metal cools after welding which made putting the winch plate in place kind of a bitch and why it looks bowed in the center. It's not welded in yet but I'll be on that tomorrow. Really need to get the gas setup so there is less cleanup to do.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
I received the mechanical to electronic vehicle speed sensor today.

Wired it up with marine grade heat shrink, full wrap electrical tape, and wire loom.

I have a speedometer again

And then I did the second part of the dash color convert.
