Yeah if I was to keep everything spotless, I don't think it'd look bad without the cover but the cover keeps it looking stock and makes it look finished. I was just afraid of starving the pump air.

I've never thought about mounting my license plate on the skid plate lol. That's pretty slick.

wasnt bad, i didnt use the prinsu hardware since i thought it was a poor insert and the rivsert was too long. Bought my own and upgraded to grade 12 hardware. The second to last hole has about the thickness of a pinky from hitting the airbag while drilling after getting through the sheet metal.

A little adaptation to avoid my exhaust tip full and clogged with mud.
I didn't found yet mud guards to fit the new fender flares.

Maybe someone here has more knowledge but, I dont think you will starve the pump of any air. It's already a big step up from that cheap plastic OEM filter. I think you will be fine. But it definitely looks good. :)

Ah that's a good idea. I'm not in mud or water (besides rain and snow) so i'm not really worried about getting water in the filter. I'll probably drive a few holes in it tonight.

Mine’s a 2012, so it never had a cover. You could also shave a little material off with a razor knife or dremel tool.

I dont have one but looks to me that even with the cover on there is more filter exposed at the bottom than there is in the hole it breathes from, shouldn't hinder it at all, just my .02

I just wish Toyota would do a recall and remove this trash. I had my pump and valves replaced at 24,000 miles.

    :)
I was posting that info more so to provide feedback
basically after 300k miles on the stock 1gr-fe motor (aka gen2 v6 4.0) you can still attain great MPG results

    22 mpg from a v6 4.0 with 300k miles is pretty awesome
about a year ago I pulled off 24.5 mpg by staying at exactly 55 mph on 90 mile drive (with no signals/stops)

    enjoying your trucking bud!

Changed all drain plugs to Dimple Magnetic plugs UNI filter on air pump
    Jaypown

Leave cover on. It will help keep water etc.

These filters are used quite a bit on motorcycles and get wet in the rain causing the filter to retain water and make the bike to run over rich.

    As me how I know.

My 2013 has the filter mod and I used the cover.
Some other Tacoma dont have the cover, so it's your call.
The filter material flows guite freely so the pump will sound louder.
Look at the original pump opening to the amount of area for air flow, I think you will be good either way.

Thanks @TOMB Yeah I def noticed the louder sound. Which was expected. I have the cover on now and I dont mind at all keeping it on. I just didnt want to cause extra restriction due to changing the original design by adding the filter.
