but there are common things which attract thieves like flies to poop. so if there's one additional hurdle, perhaps the time for a quick grab would be better spent on the prius with the carbon fiber bike on the roof rack.

If you’re rolling around with a bedrack filled with shit and a RTT and a bunch of other shit, it’s a lot easier for someone to assume you might be also rolling around with a $300-400 dollar odyssey battery or something similar. A lot of it’s all in presentation. If there is a stock looking Tacoma and a heavily moded one on the same street, and the theft chooses ones, odds are very high it’s going to be the moded one, every time.

Now I know some asshole is going to say well they might just hit every car/truck on the street. You are right lol. But if that happens usually they won’t have the time or the balls to strip shit from every vehicles. Usually that’s to grab change and loose shit laying around.

Sounds like a good idea if you dont want your hood scoop to have to be replaced with a toilet seat.

Nah man, that’s like a stage 2 upgrade. The lid is helping direct airflow into the now larger opening

When we would under the hood get car fires, the first thing I would do reach in the passenger compartment and grab for the hood release. If I was lucky it would pop. If I was unlucky I'd get two feet of burnt off cable.

Without using the release, opening the hood is a real bitch. I got to a point where were would just bend the hood corners enough to get a hose in. A friend prefers a small hydraulic tool (jaws), I've heard others use 14" rotary saws.

If for some reason someone wants to steal your battery without using a window punch and the hood release, it will be a noisy spectacle.

If they wanted it bad enough, couldn't you just pull out (bust) the grill/surround with your hands (its just plastic) to allow easy access to the latch system?

Worst case, shove a prybar between the hood and rad support and pry it open? Seems like replacing a hood and grill surround would be way more expensive than whatever they steal from inside the engine compartment?

    This!

Without getting a good pull on the cable or the opening mechanism which usually is blocked from the outside it’s nearly impossible to get open. Here is a video of a Tacoma on fire and they having to cut the hood to get it open. Watch how long it takes with a big ass cutter and a prybar

Lock your batt hold down bolts. Mini-padlock or find a keyed nut (like lugs) that will fit the hold down bolt. I suppose if there are such things like locking nuts (keyed type), then they could be used on the compressor & winch as well. :notsure:

The edge of a 630 person small midwestern town. We don't tolerate tweeker bullshit. If you can't live like a decent human being, you won't live here long.
