Maybe. I'm not sure I understand your explanation though. I'm not sure which switch you're talking about. Do you mean the switch that the door hits when it closes? If so, then tie that into the plunge switch so it thinks the door has been opened if the tailgate is open. Sounds simple enough except, when I close the tailgate, the doors could relock. Or maybe not since it thought the doors had been opened. I guess I've talked my self into seeing the genius of your idea. Thanks. TW is an awesome forum.

I still like the idea of being able to open it via an app too.

@Sungod is right. You could pick any limit switch on your doorjambs and tie in to it as well. You'll also now get a door chime if you ever leave the tailgate open so you'll have audible notification as if it's a door that's been left open. However, you'll need to now put an override switch on that line to bypass it in the event that you want to leave it open when hauling, or over night because of lets say you're moving and you've got a couch protruding out, well, if it's open and tied to this doorjamb limit switch, a few things will now happen when intentionally left open:

    - Interior dome lights will stay on and even though the vehicle eventually turns them off, it still drains battery.
    - Vehicle will NOT lock via FOB because it thinks that a door has been "left open"
    - Warning on dash that you're shifting/driving off while a door is "open". This warning stays displayed and overrides your cluster info.
    - Your FOB can accidentally be locked in the main cabin if you click lock, leave it inside then shut the door.

The vehicle will no longer auto-lock because a door has been "opened". This should solve your problem.

Currently, you don't need to wait for the prototype on independent control, you can get it now and it will still work. Because the app allows you to lock and unlock the vehicle and since the pop 'n' lock is tied to the main cabin's power door locks, just unlock your vehicle and viola!

I think I'd like that option. I've never had door relock before so I don't think of miss it.

The only time I've ever locked my keys in the car have been with that dam auto-relock "feature". Not on my Taco, but in two other cars with that feature.

I have a 66 Mustang. I hated it when I first started driving because the only way to lock the doors from the outside was to use the key. This was before the radical "lift the handle" invention and well before auto locks. As much as it annoyed me having to pull the keys out to lock it, I never locked my keys in my car. Of course the first thing I did when I finally jumped to the modern era was lock the keys my keys in my shiny new truck.

Well I'm locked out of my MT tacoma.

Long story, I keep my truck at my office warehouse since I haven't driven it much the past year. Last week took the AGM battery home to charge it. Locked the doors up and closed the hood thinking I can use the manual key to get back in. Went back today and key doesn't manually unlock the drivers door.

Is this a standard feature? If so, can I somehow pop the hood going through the faux pro grill? If not, can I make and old school slim jim and go through the window and door seal and unlock it?

My other options involve $$ and up to cutting out the faux pro grill and trying to get jumpers on the battery leads.

    Interesting.

I would have though the key would have unlocked it? So your saying it sill needs power when using the key?

Yes, doesn't unlock manually putting the key in the drivers door with no power.

If this is a standard feature, it's not a good one.

I turned that timer off. First time I opened the tailgate and heard the truck relock I knew I would probably have the same thing happen.

And if anyone is going to test it, leave your passenger door open!

    Sorry for your troubles.

The following is a tip for anyone also.

After you get this sorted out, I suggest you buy a quick starter like this (https://www.amazon.com/Nusican-Batt...words=quick+start+1000a&qid=1609953741&sr=8-4). A 1000A (2000A peak) can be had for around $50 sometimes. Then get some of these (https://www.amazon.com/WGCD-Power-A...s=2+prong+dc+connector&qid=1609953556&sr=8-16) and connect one to your battery leads and route it out of the grill. I tywrapped mine to the grill and pushed it inside but still could reach it. Connect another one to the quick starter making sure you get the polarity right. I'd suggest connecting the wire for the exposed connector to ground so you'll be sure not to have any accidental arky sparky later on since the +12V part of the connector will be insulated. You can even connect one to a battery charger if you ever need to charge the battery. (I had to when I connected my dashcam to an always on fuse which drained the battery over a weekend.) So the next time this happens, you won't be locked out. The quick starter (or a borrowed one) will get you into your Tacoma. You only need a high amp quick starter if you may need to use it to start your truck. It'll even start it without a car battery installed. This is how I started my lawnmower all summer this year after my battery went bad and probably will next summer as well. Otherwise, a really cheap one will be enough to unlock the doors. Good luck.

Thanks I've actually thought of this. My only other option may be cutting out the grill and trying to pop the hood.

Wait, are you saying if the battery is dead in my truck I can't use the key to unlock the door? That can't be right?!

That's the case for me. If this is a feature, it's a fucked up one.

At this point, if it wasn't for the $15k in mods and hundreds of hours of labor I've done, I'd light it on fire and launch it off a cliff.

Have you called the dealership? I feel like there has to be a solution for this.

Pull the top right corner of the drivers door out enough to get a gap and put a wedge in it . Then use something to pull one of the inside door handles .

The hood latch release might be easy to get popped .

I'm thinking of breaking one of the back windows or cutting the grill out to try to pop the hood. May just cut the top off and make it an old school 4Runner.

Dealers are clueless. I'm sure they'll tell me to bring the truck in.
