I'll pick it up off @pete37 next week. I'm down near Sarnia every weekend, no inconvenience

In 2013 on a trip to Gaspe Bay I met a guy from England named Stephen Stewart who change how I viewed travel. He was the person that got me interested in the Dempster highway trip to Yukon and Northwest Territories.
Check out his webpage and you will see some amazing trip reports and photos for someone who has traveled much of the world .

I’d love to do the Dempster highway! I plan on doing it and doing Newfoundland & Labrador with the girlfriend once we’re done school before we buy a house.

Thanks for that link, gonna bookmark it

Wife and I have booked 3 weeks in June to go to newfoundland. I'm still unsure about coming home through Labrador . Sat phone is recommended for the 600 kilometer dirt road. Can't imagine what a service call would cost.

I believe the sat phones are given to you and go directly to emergency services. Even if it is $20 a minute, you give your coordinates and your good to go.

@Canadian Joe said he had done it and I have talked to another guy who did it in a FJ and they said it wasn't too crazy. I believe all the recommendations they give you on the site for multiple spares etc etc are more aimed at cars that do the road. Or a van. I would make sure you have a puncture repair kit that you know how to use, an air compressor, and be up to date with your services. Should be good to go. Also some spare fuel may be good. (my truck can't do 600km on a single tank or anywhere close so...)

Also, you just had your frame replaced? Be sure to drive the truck a lot prior to the trip to ensure there are no loose ends from the replacement (figuratively and literally). I know @NeonHeights had a few odds and ends that he had to go back and fix after the whole endeavour.

Super jealous of the trip. I have had my maps planned for that route for a while. Check out gravel travel to find some trails or backroads.

    EDIT:
Also, @Canadian Joe this link you sent is awesome! definitely going to use for my future travels across Canada and hopefully one day into the Dempster.
    Posting again because its awesome.

Thanks for the info. Dealership asked me to not have the frame oiled for a month in case they need to do any work.

I don’t think I’d listen to that advice during these months to be honest. Magnesium chloride does not fuck around even on fresh painted metal. I would fluid film it yourself or take it somewhere. You don’t want rust starting on a brand new frame.

Hey are you talking about the ecgs removal and install tools? I have them and I am in Sarnia. Anyone who needs em can pm me and pick them up anytime. I can even drive tools over to him and help if he’s got beer.

We traveled that road in August, the road for the most part was in good condition. The roughest part was actually the paved section down close to Blanc- Sablon ,,potholes are very bad in that area . Within a few years it will all paved .There was a quite a bit of construction south of Goose Bay . One thing you will want is a good bug jacket in Labrador:)
This is the road south of Goose Bay before you get out to the coast.

I read most of his travels,,, good read, makes me feel pretty amateur

We usually just randomly will do it.
I try to avoid it during black fly time though since I get bad reactions to their bites.

During the summer though we'll go plenty.
