Why does the TRD Off-Road 4x2 exist?

And this right here is why we need to have this discussion over pancakes, because it’s a very 3 dimensional conversation. I would always want 4wd no matter where I lived, after having used it on slick rock inclines and snow. Crawling over rocks and inclement weather may not always be the case for the off road enthusiast. I have fun in either, but if I had to pick a passion, 2wd for high speed dirt funsies would be my choice, even though it may not get you UP some crazy bits.

But my reponse was for the “why” sentiment, which has an air of “2wd doesn’t dirt”

I agree but Tacoma doesn’t have the wide paddle tires that float and can’t go as fast as sandrail in sand dunes lol. Try to use 2wd Tacoma in oceano dunes lol

So what you're saying is you need to go prepared for the environment you're in. Kind of like putting a winch and KO2s and a lift on a truck right.
I've seen plenty of tacomas and Rangers running up and down dunes at Glamis. A properly equipped vehicle may be required. But 4wd isn't one of them.

 

I too have seen things at glamis that would blow minds.

 

I had a Baja Bug about 30 years ago, took it many places I should not have, lol.

 

I have a buddy that took his miata places most guys here wouldn't touch with their trucks.

 

Suspension

 

I was thinking of fleet vehicles that use the truck on gravel roads in the south. Phone line men, maintenance etc.

I am guessing here .....it is an odd duck

 

Lol. Just drive a 2wd up oceano dunes or your truck in 2wd there and you'll have a change of heart lol. I rest my case .

 

Is there a cheaper option for 4drs, short bed, and an auto transmission?
