Okay so who here has actually done this before that's coming Saturday?

 

I have taken one CV axle out to replace a rubber boot before. So I now have all the required tools to get that far... But if people bring extras that will help more trucks get done faster.

 

I'd like to be there around 8 as well. @wafflroo, you good with 8 next Saturday since you have the majority of the tools? No worries if not.

 

I’ll be there, I have the tools and have replaced my cv’s more times than I’d like to admit so very familiar with the process.

I can be there for 8.

 

The thing I don't have is the removal tool for the bearing. I have everything else as I've replaced CV's before. My P/S axle boot is actually torn so I might replace that at the same time if that's alright, shouldn't take much longer. I have all the hand tools, pry bars, sledge, floor jack and stands as well.

 

I guess it's set, 8 am next Saturday

 

I plan on being there at 8, but don't need to be first in line if other peeps have things they need to go afterwards.

 

As long as mines done by noonish I can wait as well. Or if I need to be the test dummy I'm down

Does anyone have gear oil? I've seen a few threads showing Lucas Oil 85W-140. If not, I can pick some up. I think it's around $10 for a quart. That should be enough for everyone, yeah?

 

I have some gear oil at home, need to check what weight it is, was for my old 4Runner. I think if we just jack up the drivers side high enough before pulling the axle, fluid loss should be very marginal, so I don't think you'll really need to add more. Might not hurt to have some on hand just in case. But I drive a 3rd gen Tacoma, so it's probably low on gear oil anyway.

 

I’m not local but I’m doing one of these on Sunday. The removal tool is easy enough to make if anyone is handy and has access to a welder and an angle grinder. I have to make a new one tonight because I gave mine away. If anyone is interested I’ll try to remember to post a picture when I’m done.

 

I’d suggest everyone bringing a quart of gear oil for their trucks, just to be safe. I have a hand pump to pump it into the diff. I’ve been using that Lucas gear oil for 45k with no problems

 

I'll pick some up this weekend. I could bring two just in case. I use whatever o reilly's had and it's worked just fine

 

I will bring some oil too just in case.

Also, if @SaphiraTaco doesnt mind, I’d like to do my diff breather mod on this day if my help isn’t required the whole time.
