Show us your truck bed sleeping platform/drawer/storage systems

Some people have designed around the short bed...my long bed is what I've been posting about.

 

Tailgate down with a vestibule.

 

If it’ll be just you in there, sleeping diagonally will work. If not, then What bagleboy said would work. Also, something to consider with the tailgate down thing, you may need an extender for the platform to fold out or something so your feet and ankles aren’t hanging off the edge of the sleeping pad. There are a few guys in here that made something like that.

watched his truck tour last night, which gave me another option for some mid winter heating options. He's been living in that for over four years so ya, if he can do it im sure with all of our setups we would be fine

 

Seems like a lot of weight for what it does and a bit redundant. Clever, but not what I would do. I'm sure he's proud of it though.

Yeah but you get more for it. He has two back ends and opens one to pull out the other. I'd like it more if he could eliminate the tailgate and shell window and keep the telescoping mod.

 

I would not want it, but I commend his ingenuity. Maybe you should make one for him.

Is that addition wind, rain, and snow proof?

 

It seems to be but I have doubts it would last long in an area that gets lots of rain. I've watched a couple of his videos and, IIRC, he's got some pool noodles that he shoves in the gaps. The "diamond plate" is some sort of stick on vinyl on plywood. He seems to use a tent more often, which makes a lot more sense if you're actually trying to live out of it. more room to move around, change clothes, etc. plus I think he has a dog with him. I commend him on his dedication but I'd build or buy a larger camper for the rear if I was actually planning to live out of it. I've lived out of mine for a month at a time and it gets old quick, even my old VW camper was better space-wise.

 

My camper setup is 1050# dry. What do you scale at?

 

That's my old camper. It said it was 575lbs but from what I've heard the listed weights on their campers isn't always true. I only weighed my whole rig one time loaded during a trip and the whole thing was around 6400 lbs.

 

Just got the platform and drawers back in after pulling it to install some bedside stiffeners and swap out a cab-hi top for a 122. Night and day with this thing... no more feeling like you’re climbing into a coffin at night.

Front and side blackout curtains cut and hemmed to fit some cheap pipe and brackets from Ace that mount right to the window hardware. Now I just need to find a piece of reflectix big enough for this rear window and we’ll be all set.

Initial thoughts on the Leer coming from an ARE Z-series: the extra height is great, but the build quality and assembly of pretty much everything but the fiberglass feels pretty cheap and shoddy. Took it to the car wash to find leaks and had to make some big adjustments to the windoor latches and get silicone into gaps on the front rail corners. All expected. But it feels kinda thrown together compared to the ARE.

 

Put some lights up today.
