I'd see if he would refund money if it didnt work out. He made me that offer on sims. Speaking of which, tripped codes this morning. They dont work for my truck.

I think that's exactly what it's made for. The description says you'll need a custom tune for the boosted application. But it also says you can remap for larger than stock fuel injectors.....interesting.

I had a bad experience with mine. Pulled it off after 5min of running and gadget said find a tuner it’s not his problem. Maybe if you can get the right tune it will help, but I got a big screw you from them about mine that was supposedly loaded with the correct tune.

Ahh. This makes me laugh. OV (in that thread) told me I need a larger diameter tube around the maf. He had a picture. Oh, and he said you have to calibrate it. You know, tune it...

It's certainly not a one size fits all type of thing and not for the faint of heart. But I'm sure it's totally doable with enough time and effort. Honestly if you're looking for something that's ready to go as close to out of the box as possible, the only fully available solution is the UCON and it comes with it's own programmer via the internet (if required). OVtune sounds like its not far out, so that could become a viable option at some point.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
You guys are talking past each other.

    1. OV Tune has handheld tuning devices and Dongle USB tuners. The handhelds do NOT come with any tunes but all the cable to interface with your computer (Microsoft) and your truck. The dongles are being replaced or discontinued, not sure I don’t have one but they are referenced in the instructions on the OV website.

    2. MAF Calibration/Tuning must be done by a tuner utilizing tuning software like IO Tech. Just modifying the MAF like he talks about alone would require tuning modification to work. This is completely separate and distinct from any of his current tunes offered and he hasn’t explored this yet.

    3. IO Tech tuning software can allow you to do this on your own but will require you to purchase rights for the software and the hardware to interface with your ECU. IO Tech is discussed by Mat at OV but not sold by him. I don’t know if he uses it or not, but the tunes he creates are disseminated via email from him through email to your handheld device or dongle device.

    4. URD offers a tuned MAF calibration based upon engine specs provided to them. It sounds like this is hit or miss and more miss than hit. The tuning for these calibration devices is done with computer tuning software in house, I assume, and then sold as a final unit. It can potentially be adjusted but was not designed with that capability in mind for the end user.

    Hope this helps

I might only argue that the URD product (I think is an adaptation of the Split Second products, worth a look: https://splitsec.com/) is very much intended to be for tuners. They do offer some out of the box tunes, but like you said there are a few that have had their issues.

Thanks for the clarification. I am only trying to highlight that Mat agrees the science will work from a hardware standpoint, but MAF adjustment for the ECU through, IO Tech/Split Second/Tuning Software will be necessary on top of physical MAF adaptation.

The whole maf tube modding discussion started as a means to address the maf tables maxing out at 322 g/s and how to overcome that when using tuning software like iotech. I think we're all on the same page that tuning is needed.

Tuning is where it's at. It's not that the pipe size cant flow it. It's the tuning being able to understand.

Right. I get the impression that patching the ecu and just expanding the size of the maf table for is more work for Mat than modding the maf and re-scaling the existing table

I do know mat has told me he can make custom tunes for me. I'm possibly the most computer incapable person here hampering that. I have a tw group mod day on Sunday. Maybe I can get in on solving it. I have all the equipment. Tactrix too.

Had a bit of a setback on the turbo 1fz today:

    0EB2FB4D-9A1D-48D3-BC01-B6DA276F1190.jpg 8DB9AFC3-B319-4448-9525-CB897282D8FC.jpg 469AAE8C-6C50-4117-B715-D48865BAC899.jpg

Edit: pressure testing of the cooling system says there is a leak, but slow. 1fz already had a head gasket repair before I bought it. It was done at a Toyota dealer, but I’m wondering if they either didn’t resurface the head or reused the one-use bolts. Leaning hard towards the LS conversion now. I’m not made of money, so cost effective is the answer.

I saw that! No idea why a California truck would have that much rust!
