I dont get his obsession with the task of removing paint with high pressure sand. Its a sucky job. Back in Highschool we made the freshmen do it in the body shop. Shit hurts your hands after like 5 mins. I would be dipping those horns in hydrchloric acid like 100 at a time in a huge vat. The EPA wouldnt like me doimg it in my garage, but :notsure:.

It’s arguably the best way to remove paint and rust from awkwardly shaped objects. I think the results speak for themselves.

And for what I’m charging, you bet I’m going to be extra with how I refinish my product.

There’s rubber seals inside the horn diaphragms and plastic on the horn body that insulates certain things that surely would be ruined with an Acid bath.

The time it would take to disassemble the horn would be roughly equal to the time it would take to blast it maybe? Idk just spitballing here. You could automate the whole process. Dump used horns in a bin on one end of the line, 30 mins later theyre riding through an infrared oven on the other side, then packaged and palletized. All automatically while you drink beer and watch tv.

Ideally I’d like to find a manufacturer for these. I’m going to run out of GM land yachts one day and the copyright on these horns are set to expire soon.

I can’t disassemble them either, they’re all spot welded and forged as one unit.

Shoot, you could probably pick an abandonded factory in detroit (their numerous) and stumble across the machinery to make them. Whens that patent expire? (Not like I would buy it first or anything :luvya:)

If it's easy to go after, yeah. Just don't let it affect your life negatively going after them, like most people do. They become bitter old bastards. If it's a hassle etc, I'd let it go. But that's just me

It was made by Delco-Remy who quit making at least the D and C horns in the early 1990’s. A and F lasted well into the 2000’s.

They act like they never made them to begin with. I couldn’t find anything about it on their website. They solely make heavy diesel starters and alternators now.

You’ll never fucking believe it, but the patent expired today, March 1st, 2019. First filed in 1962.
