Seriously? it's simple as it gets. Many companies make weld on bash plates. Replace the 3rd with new shafts and it's a much cheaper and stronger in the end.

    So has his differential.

I did this on a differential years ago by over revving it and locked it on pavement. Bang. Wasn't 'backing' out of a parking space either lol.
    Lesson learned.

    Wives...

Had my 99 s-10 like a month. Finally let my then girlfriend, now wife drive to the store. She goes to park, throws the shifter into park while going like 5 mph...you know the sound. Every click was another piece of my soul dying.

Sorry for your truck, I feel your pain.

    Hi Norm,

I doubt your still reading this forum since it took such a nose dive but if you are, I have a possibly explanation for your damages. If you look closely at the ring gear it is cracked right along the bolt lines. The large chunk still has the center of three bolts inside it. If the gear was not torqued correctly to correct specs following correct torque pattern it is possible that the gear has been vibrating its entire life causing metal fatigue, finally resulting in catastrophic failure. I see it possible that the "center" bolt I was talking about was loose, the head finally snapped off and was thrown through the diff housing, causing the gaping hole, when that bolt gave so did the ring gear, fracturing along fatigue points that had been developing over the life of the vehicle and could have been exacerbated if the two bolts on either side were over tightened. If you have witnesses and your wife really wasn't overdoing it, I would take another run at your area Toyota rep, if that doesn't work escalate it to the next higher office. Finally as last ditch efforts, take to social media and local news outlets who may be willing to do a fluff piece and help you shame Toyota into doing the right thing. If it happened exactly as your wife said this shouldn't have happened and Toyota should cover it.

It's been a long time since I pulled wrenches professionally and I am not an engineer so you may want to get a few supporting opinions before you run with it.

    Really sorry about your luck.
