Let's see your FJ case swap

I assume the actuator is wired to the case shift sensor much like the dash indicator is. Part of the process of the install is using the FJ case sensors so the stock Taco dash indicator lights for 4wd and lo are functional.

@6 gearT444E is the real authority on this subject for me. I could not have done this without his assistance.

 

Does the FJ use a different 4WD ECU then? It'd be pretty slick to not have to wire a separate switch.

 

The FJ from the autos (with ADD) work just the same. You see in the tacomas the 4x4 detent switch in the transfer case sends a signal to the 4x4 ECU to activate and de-activate the ADD.

For the FJs you could accomplish the same thing. Easiest way to do it would be to wire that 4x4 detent switch to a DPDT relay. Then wire the DPDT relay the same way as we wire it up for the ADD, except the coil is tied to +12V and the 4x4 switch would provide the ground for the coil. Very similar to how folks do the "locker anytime" mod on the e-lockers. The only downside to that setup would be there would be no way to get 2low without twin sticking the case, unless you wired in a switch to interrupt the power to said relay coil prior to activating it in 4wd.

To answer your question, yes they have a different 4x4 ECU. A much simpler one than ours since it only controls the ADD, not the transfer case as well

Anyone know another company besides Davez and FROR that does a twin-stick for the FJ? I think I saw Wheeler's does. Anyone else?

Davez Offroad doesn't make them anymore and FROR took money on the 21st, sent an automatic email saying they got my order, and then nothing. Can't seem to get hold of them by phone or email. If something is on back order, that's fine, but I'd at least like to know about it.

Edit: I can't remember who makes one for $300. I do not want to spend $300 on sticks but what's another $50 at this point?

Yep, sent an email earlier this week, no word back yet. Was just about to call.

FROR was on sale for $189. Ballin on a budget right now. Saving what I can for Moab in a couple weeks.

I was really hoping to have this swap done in time for that trip but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

 

I'd recommend RAD designs or Merlin. The Merlin twin stick I have had been holding up great no leaks and seals up and looks nice.

 

Don’t think marlin makes one for the fj case?

 

Have any info on where you bought your shifter boot (58280-35320)? I tried getting one from Gunny1005 on here and he said they're discontinued and he's unable to order them. I think i may have to find one in a pick and pull
