You had fun and i bet you would do it again given the circumstances were the same again. I don’t believe anyone judged you. No worries at all!

More snow here in WV last night. Getting ready to head out and play. Trying to figure out if its gonna be a Landcruiser day or SxS day.

Fellas, my buddy has a 98 4runner and the low beams stopped working out of the blue. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. We know the bulbs are good. Relay seems fine. No fuses are blown. So this leads me to believe its a bad ground?

    Where is the ground?

    Any advice on fixing this?

High beams and all other functions of the stalk/switches work.

    Relay clicks on and off.

So i’m guessing ground. The turn signals are said to share the same ground as the low beams...when we turn the signals or 4ways on, the head lights act like they want to work...

The only thing I’ve been able to locate so is the 98 works off a grounded switch instead of a hot switch but still looking

No I haven’t been able to find a clear pic of a 98 harness yet.. but some digging the the forums about half the people have had both low beams burn out at same time and since it’s a dual element bulb high beams still work

Check the relay in fuse box under hood pull relay and check connections for power with a test light or multi meter ..I’m coming up with nothing helpful on 98s

    Thank you for checking.

He did put some silverstar ultra sylvannias in right after he bought it, maybe a year or two ago...so we’ll try swapping the bulbs first and go from there.

The shop manual i have should have the wiring diagram in it somewhere

    A thing or two...
A relay can click on/off and still be bad if it isn't pulling the armature all the way and making poor/intermittent/no contact. I've come across this before.

Since it's ground switched, it is probably inside the cab under the dash. 2nd gen Tacomas are ground switched for a lot of there systems as well.

Those burn out quickly and often together judging by complaints on forums

Don't pull my man card. But instead of playing in the snow with one of my offroad toys (like I planned) I took the wife to breakfast & Hobby Lobby instead. :(
