Our Tacoma came with Theft Patrol and no alarm. The dealership basically said nobody pays attention to alarms and they haven't used anything but theft patrol in years, and its basically the greatest thing ever. I read some not so great reviews and the dealership said if we don't like it they'll uninstall us and give us the money back.

So far I'm unimpressed. I set up a geofence, but the app doesn't give actual notifications. It makes a notification in the app that I can go look at, but it doesn't pop up a notification on the phone. It's generally 10-20 minutes behind when I check it (I'll leave the house and it says my truck is in the driveway when I'm 10 miles down the freeway)

Does anyone use theft patrol and think its good? We paid $500 and it has a $5000 guarantee if the car is stolen and not recovered, but I'm not sure its worth it even for that.

I'm thinking about ditching it but not sure what alarm option are out there. I've only had dealer installed alarms on my previous cars. Are there aftermarket alarms that work with my key fob? I've also been looking into an owl cam but I have my reservations on that too.

What is everyone out in tacoma world using for an alarm?

And 90% of the time I forget to lock my doors anyway. Locks and alarms just keep honest people honest.

Nada. My neighborhood is patrolled by a security guard armed with a... stick... I’m pretty sure if someone is stealing something the guy would do a uturn in his golf cart and look other way. If someone wants it. It’s theirs to take. I’ll be forced to buy another truck. OH WELL.

CompuStar car alarm with 2-way remote. The manufacturer states that the remote is capable of providing real time feedback up to 3 miles away. I don't see it as a means to prevent robbery of the truck per se. I mostly installed it to protect the "stuff" that I typically keep locked away in the truck. This was exacerbated by the annoying fact that my employer has a no firearms policy. As such I have to disarm every day before getting to work. If someone wants my truck they can have it........ just don't try to take my "stuff".

I don't have an alarm but thinking about getting one. Like you, I'm not concerned about the truck so much as the stuff I have in there. Nothing obviously exposed but concerned just the same..

This right here, if someone is out to steal a newer car, they know what they are doing. A locked door will keep the neighborhood kids from stealing your spare change. A car thief that can bypass the chip keys already knows how to unlock your car without a key.

Has anyone else come close to using their 12 gauge on an annoying car alarm, blaring for 30 minutes because of a wind gust?

Sorry OP. Please disregard everyone. I feel better now.

I would say, get your $500 back. If the car is stolen, your insurance will take care of it. As for break-ins, staying out of the seedy areas and not leaving valuables visible will go a long ways. Although, if someone really wants to break into your car, they'll do it with an alarm present, or not.
