Back in november i had to have my windshield replaced on my 2016 tacoma sport. Since then there has been weird little quirky things going in with my dash and lights. Culminating in a bunch of things today. Left my house for a drive a few hrs away, in the snow, heavy wet stuff. Just before the end of my drive my tire pressure light came on but showed no reading when i scrolled to the tires pressure screen, checked the pressure at a gas station and they’re all fine. Continued driving and my fuel gauge went from just under a half a tank to full including the estimated miles to empty went from 230 - 366.
Got to my destination a few hrs later headed out for lunch, tire light was still on, gas gauge was still “full” then my door ajar light came on with the annoying chime, all doors were shut, double checked them all. Anyonr have any idea what could cause this?

Sounds like you have water getting in somewhere creating the shorts.

Probably from a bad windshield seal i’m guessing?

Most likely. Are the floor boards wet on passenger or driver side?

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
Water getting in would be my guess also. Don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but its fairly easy and quick to pull the instrument cluster out and see if things are wet.

Does it sound like it's in the dash or in the windshield... at what speed does the howl start?

Around 55-60mph. At first it sound like a squeak, over time it started to sound like a howl near where the dash meets the windshield

That's going to be your issue. The bottom seal on the window is bad.

No I don't think so. Just need to open up the dash and get connections dry and make sure no corrosion has taken place.

Pull off the driver and passenger side kick panels ( Closest to the exterior ) if you have water coming in, it will pool there. The pins on the wiring may be corroded at this point. Verify that there is water there yourself before u spend any money! If there is bring it to the dealership have them inspect it and check the harness and connector pigtails for corrosion, pay there diagnoses charge if they say to. Then contact the glass company with written proof and tell them they will be replacing/resealing your windshield, paying your diagnoses charge and they will be paying for the dealer to replace the dash/floor harness's.

Best case is there is no damage and the window gets replaced/resealed, but if there is corrosion push to have the harness's replaced and if there is water and u can smell mildew when u pull the carpet back a bit that is when it gets real expensive.

I have seen this happen before and the cost can be in the thousands.. especially if there is a decent amount of water it can be 10k in repairs/labor. If there is a lot of water or mildew smell everything that got wet will need to be replaced. examples are firewall mat, floor mat, carpet, rubber sound proofing and the car will need to be to be tested for mold spores and before and after and every part inside disinfected by safety-kleen or a similar company.

If there is corrosion and/or mildew scenario the glass company wont have a leg to stand on, I am assuming your truck is still under the 3-36 warranty and its your right to keep that warranty so their faulty work is compromising that since any issues down the line should they arise will not be covered.

Your welcome i have seen this happen many times. Unfortunately the glass company's love to advertise how fast they can replace windshields but don't tell you how being too quick can cause them to make mistakes.

Where are you seeing the bad seal? windshields will actually have 2 seals the ones you can see on the outside of the car that helps keep water and debris out of the main seal. Which almost goes down kind of like silicone and the windshield is then mushed into it. That is the main seal which u wont be able to see unless you damage and remove the exterior seal or remove trim panels from the interior of the car. You will also definitely want the dealership to find were the water leak may be coming from as well they will run a water hose around the edge of the glass and inspect from the inside to find exactly where it is coming from.

But who know it may not even be from the windshield it could be from a weld point or body seam which would be great but toyota would be paying to repair it and its a lot less for you to deal with going back and forth with your insurance company and the glass company.

Keep us updated on what you find.

Bottom driver side corner of the windshield the rubber was all bunched up and flapped over incorrectly. Its also my driver side door thats throwing the door ajar alarm. So far the tire pressure light went off and it is reading the proper psi again. Wondering if it dries out will these things correct themselves? Either way i’m having it all looked at for corrosion and where the water is coming from.
Now that i think of it all this quirky stuff happens in wet weather. Mainly the tire pressure light. That happened a few times i figured it was debris in the sensor or something. The fuel gauge and door ajar just started today after a few days of heavy wet snow and more driving the usual.
I will def keep you updated! The company i used is a well known long standing family company.
