Have my first oil change coming up pretty soon here and I was curious if anyone has used OR heard of Amazon Basics Synthetic Oil? And I'm curiouse at what intervals do most of you change your oil? I'm planning on going with the Amazon Basics Synthetic Oil & Either the FRAM filter linked below or the Toyota One also linked below. I'm going to check the oil periodically and see how it goes (after my oil change) but the plan is to try and do it every 7,500 miles. I keep hearing 5,000 & 10,000+ intervals but I figure I'd go in between the two.

This is where I got the idea for amazon basics oil and this video does a full test against mobil 1

    Thoughts? & Suggestions?

    Thanks!

Stick with Toyota filter, oil is whatever synthetic you want, I use Mobil 1, but saw that video on the basics oil and may give it a shot someday.

    My Interval is 8-10k,

I’m switching from Mobil1 to Amazon Synthetic Oil. Amazon’s detergents and specs are the same as Mobil1. I’ll be sticking with the OEM filters though. Fram filters are pretty shitty quality.

I just don’t want to deal with the Walmart crowd anymore trying to save that $3-$6 for the 5 quart jug, which sometimes costs $26 and other times costs $20. Mobil’s engine oil price doesn’t even track against the commodity price of oil. Competition is good and might force Mobil1 off it’s high horse.

Brand of oil doesn't matter. I get whatever is the cheapest. My oil gets sampled by Blackstone laboratories periodically. My recommended oil change interval is 12,500 miles

Good to know thanks. I think I’ll stick with the Toyota filters and switch to Amazon oil.

Wow 12,500? That’s crazy I’m thinking 7,500-10,000 depending. Will be using Amazon basics oil and Toyota filter now. :)

Only because I get my oil monitored. That is their recommendation. I use whatever synthetic is the cheapest. I'm in Florida also.

Again with the Fram bashing. Fram filters are fine, the ultra could even be described as “class leading.”

Any name brand filter changed at a reasonable interval (appropriate for the filter) will likely result in zero oil/filter related engine issues.

If you are going with an extended interval, something like a Mobil1, wixXP, or *gasp* Fram ultra will be a great pairing for 10K+ OCI.

I’ve even run the same premium filter for multiple OCI with zero negative effects (via oil analysis).

You are willing to run Amazon basics (a warren distributing blend, same as Walmart supertech) but won’t put a Fram on? Lol. People.

I would like to see a UOA on the Amazon oil but couldn't find any.

If I use the Toyota filter then I change it at 5k, my other option is the Mobil 1 209a filter and I'll run that for 8k when I change the oil.

As I mentioned above, I believe it shares the same dexos1g2 approval number as Walmart supertech - blended by warren (who also do Mag-1, and many others, in fact I think Mag-1 shares the same number too).

It’s perfectly serviceable synthetic oil. Run it with confidence for any reasonable synthetic oil interval.

When I say that about Fram, I’m making statements off various disassembly videos that visually show how fram uses pretty low quality or basic arts and craft materials to form their filters. No thanks! I think I’ll stick with the $5 oem filter over the $3 fram filter.
