I dunno if I can help, I pulled the wiring it out of the tailgate on mine and didn't have to use an extension.

    Damn.

I put a reinforcement skin on my tailgate, and it would be a pain in the ass to remove.

I used a Pelfrey relocate bracket and spliced more wire into my factory harness to reach the area I wanted it located. I have another bracket that could possibly be modified to hold your camera. I believe @trekker used the same one(extra one that neither of us used on our trucks) and was able to make it work for @MellyMel's relocate.

Lucky mine was close to a foot short of were I wanted it to be located. I wanted it directly down from where it was factory which was driverside of the tailgate handle.

Yeah I had plenty of wire and it was pretty easy, but I just had the stock tailgate cap. An impact driver made it quick.

I believe I’ll have a bracket for the camera, but would rather buy a new camera vs try to recover my stock one.

That said, is there a better one than stock?

I feel like I've read somewhere that Mobtown does provid brackets with their swingout bumpers. I looked into cameras and didnt find much that would wire in like factory besides factory replacements. There is likely something out there that I missed.

The only experience I have with other cameras are the ones I added in the front bumper and over the tires. 20 bucks each on Amazon and they work well. I believe I put a link in my thread, you cab find it in the first post.

A lot of the reviews said the video resolution was crap or fisheyed. Some did say they had better picture but would have to be a complete rewire to the radio. I wanted to do the same and leave mine in the tailgate but I got cheap and lazy so I just reused the one on my truck.

Yes sir, we just got back from last decision of mega run. She said she will stick with easy trails and just ride in my truck the rest of the time.
