    Yes, I may go that route but for now just locking in 4 lo does the trick. Honestly 9 out of 10 times I have to back the camper or utility trailer up I'm on a soft surface so it doesn't make much difference. Plus, I'm not backing up far and at very low speed I almost just let the truck crawl it's way

    When you start changing suspension geometry you can 100% have bump steer

    That’s my next big decision. 4.88s on 37s with the 6MT should turn around 2750rpm at 75. 5.29s will be close to 3100. I’m leaning towards 4.88s and then a tacobox or atlas4 in the future for those low low crawling gears.

    But keeping everything else the same (stock length uppers and lowers) how would 37s themselves introduce bump steer? Or are y’all talking about LT?

    But lowering or in our case raising and changing the angles that they were set at as the engineers designed them changes how they react and can induce bump steer. A good example is lowering a fox body mustang induces bump steer after lowering which is why there are kits on the market to get the tie rods into a better angle and reduce bump steer. I hope that makes sense.

    Yeah auto I'm ~2250 @70 and a little less than 2400 @75 which is ~what it was stock. With 5.29s I am closer to what you are with 4.88s

    In your case I’d go 5.29 if you don’t do a ton of highway driving. That stupid od gear in the manual blows. I’m jelly of the 3rd gens with their double OD. 5.29s all day in a 3rd gen.

    Right the tires won't cause bump steer but the extra sidewall height can give you a wandering effect. With the older strait axel trucks when we went to 35" plus tires it was one of the main reasons we added 1 or even 2 stablizers they reduced the effects you felt with steering when you hit obstacles.

    Tires won't cause it lifting the trucks like we have can. Tires can however make it less prevalent and you not feel it as much as other tires. But big sidewall tires can follow the road more and cause you to have to chase the truck around so to speak. From everything that I've learned over the yrs from racing and building cars I have barely scratched the surface yet it would take me 20 yrs or so to pass that information onto you. There are tons of good books out there that can explain it much better than I.
    Yep plus the older suspensions like that on trucks weren't the best engineered to avoid bumpsteer with the style of steering system.

    Yep I'm old and IDK all this new fangled IFS stuff I shoulda never entered into this conversation. Try dampening a CJ7 with 37's but that was a whole different world I'll quietly disappear now
