Albuquerque, NM. Shipping notice only said the Crossbin was coming so I was surprised to see everything when it got here! Sorry can’t get photos to this iPad right now, but it looks great. Fantastic packaging, excellent instructions, i’m very happy! Thanks kyle@realtruck! Now got the pics posted.

Just arrived! Stoked to get her on and see how she looks. Gunna have to wait a couple days for the bulkhead seal also. I don’t see why that would be a big deal though so here goes! :woot::taco:

you need warmer weather for the bulkhead seal to cure properly. Same with the silicone if you're going to do that too

Right. I’m going to wait for a few days until it warms up before I apply the bulkhead seal. I’ll just set up the cover without the seal in the meantime and just ensure it’s clean and ready when the weather decides to behave some.

It won’t be water tight in the meantime, but we are expecting sunshine all week until after it warms up anyway

    BOOM!

It will still need a couple adjustments in the morning, but I love it already!

Thanks for putting this together @kyle@realtruck!

For those of you that plan on using the silicone sealant that the bulkhead seal instructions call for, are you going with a clear silicone or black? I noticed that permatex makes a general purpose indoor/outdoor black silicone sealant in a 3oz tube, #81158. GE also makes a black door/window silicone that is available at lowes & home depot.

I'm going to go black, and hopefully make it smooth enough nobody will notice.

On a sealing note, does anyone have a way of making the tailgate gaps somewhat waterproof?

You’re the 2nd to mention this silicone option. I looked over my bulkhead sealing instructions included and didn’t see any silicone option instructions. Was this a tip you picked up on TW somewhere or was it vehicle specific?

The instructions tell you to remove the top of the bulkhead and put the foam there right? But between the side of that piece and the sides of the bed there are gaps. The silicone is for that area I believe.

On the instructions, underneath the parts list is a "Pre-installation Notes" section. In their it says to refer to the "bulkhead prep kit installation guide". In those instructions, it mentions the silicone. The bulkhead prep installation guide for 3rd gen tacoma is here: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1...llation-guide-tacoma.pdf?12663502946418076519

all the guides are here: https://diamondbackcovers.com/pages/installation-guides

    Got mine yesterday!:bananadance:

As for the silicone, I saw that someone previously used butyl tape. So I ended up using Morimoto retrorubber butyl that I had left over from a headlight retrofit. Less mess and it’s pretty easy to work with.

I was going to try to add some weather stripping to the tailgate gaps and hose the truck down to test it. I’ll let you know how it goes.:fingerscrossed:

 *points to self* Well look at the Big Brain on Brad

Literally right in front of my face. Thanks for volunteering for a handholding session. Apparently i quit paying attention when I got it the part about needing 50 degree temps or better. Thought it was and either/or scenario not one to use together. Thanks.

The OP is a little cagey on the discount to be had by getting in on the group buy.

    Two questions:

    1) Without giving away specific numbers, can anyone give some indication of how significant the group buy discount is? Is it worth the inconvenience of waiting for the group buy offers to roll around?
    2) Do these group buys tend to be offered at certains times of the year, or is it pretty random?

These photos are awesome, thanks again everyone for joining. Good call with waiting for the weather to warm up for the adhesive.

@allgoodpeople shoot me a PM and I am happy to go over the group buy pricing. To answer your second question, it varies by interest. To be honest, it will likely be several months before contemplating doing another as this one ended. With it being such a success, I'd be happy to write up a proposal for another product group buy, but odds are it wouldn't be Diamondback.

Quick question so on the 16+ Tacomas, you do remove the bulkhead to apply the rubber seal underneath? The install videos I found shows this gasket sitting on top but I couldn’t find a specific install video for 3rd gens that addresses this. Also, it says to line it up to the leading edge, is that the edge facing the back of the truck? Sorry for stupid questions and maybe it’ll make sense when I get the cover.
