I used to always have a manual tranny, beginning with my '56 Chevy which had an Overdrive! (Who remembers Overdrive?) Finally, after numerous cars, when I bought my 2005 Sport Pre-Runner, my wife convinced me to buy an automatic. She said "Pretty soon your knees or a hip will give out and then where will you be?" That made some sense back then but so far all my major joints are original and working fine! But I AM enjoying the automatics!

My 2013 was an automatic. It was the only automatic that I've owned. At the time, I thought it made more sense. Life decided it didn't and sent someone into me, head-on (apply directly to the forehead?).

Thus my 2016 is a manual. I had read all the automatic dislikes in the 3G prior to purchase, and I never cared for how the 2G shifted in and out of torque converter lockup. I figured if I need to be practical and buy a vehicle I could baby, I'd buy a manual. It doesn't make a ton of sense since my wife cannot drive it, but it hasn't been an issue yet.

The funny thing is when I would buy manual in the past, people would always say to me, what happens when you break a leg? Then you cannot drive! AHAHAHA (or the like). Well, I did break my leg a few years back. Just to show them, I broke my right left! Take that, people!

I've driven a manual on a few occasions and we got to our destination...with some stalling. I never got much practice in so I voted "no".

At least honest. But now you know you can at least figure it out if you had to. I'm going to teach my girls on a stick first so they know how to just in case.

Everybody with a modern automatic should 'remember' it, since they usually have 2 overdrive gears :stirthepot: :p

But I know you're talking about the old mechanical OD/UD units that bolted on behind the transmission. There's a company called Gear Vendors that still makes them, too. I know a guy that put one in his W200.

Had one automatic vehicle , 2003 accord. Quite nice actually but hated driving it. Learned to drive on my dads 88 golf and ever since love the manual. Just sucks in traffic.

Had ranger, camaro, b2200 and civic and all were super fun to drive. Glad toyota still offers manuals on tacos! :burnrubber:

    This is epic.

For the record, if anyone ever rents a car oversees, there is a high probability it will be manual. This alone convinced my GF it's worth knowing how to drive stick.

Good with anything up to and including twin-stick 5+4. Use to confuse the hell out of people when I'd float the gears on my old Ranger. I've got an AT now, but only because I couldn't get an MT without a sunroof, and that lowered the headliner enough that I didn't fit comfortably in it.

Decades owning and driving MT vehicles. I will NEVER own another manual in my daily driver vehicle. I get better mileage, never wear a clutch out, point and shoot simplicity, and get the use of all the computerized traction functions. For a old muscle car or any sports car where my principle purpose IS to drive the car, a MT is the ticket. When in hauling stuff, traveling, towing, or commuting I want a AT.

My first brand new car was an 88 Golf, that was a pretty fun car that I had for 11 years till it got totaled in a hit and run.

Mine is manual and was going to trade it in last weekend and the dealer told me it was a hard sell because it is manual. I didnt even argue since I went on a hunt last year for this one and they do not have many available in 4cyl 4x4.
