How about a 3" with stock tires for now?

I just got a 2010 Taco last week (after having tried to buy a damn Chevy lol, but lets not get into that).

Anyway, I am so glad I went with the 'yota, but I do have a question about a lift. I have a double cab 4x4 and I want to put on an EZ-Lift 3" leveling kit. The only problem is, I can't exactly spend the money to buy 33" tires and wheels, so I will have to stick with my 245/75/16 for now...

I guess, what I am asking is, how "stupid" (if at all ) does that look? Any pictures would be helpful. I'm hoping sometime in the next few months I can buy the 285's that I want (hopefully BFG AT). But I would like to get some useful life out of these brand new stock tires.

you could always buy the lift kit now and just keep it in the garage till you have saved up enough to purchase wheels/tires. Then put them all on at the same time.

My wheels sat in my garage for months before I got my lift kit. Then I pulled the trigger and did the install when I ordered my tires. I was running stock tires for about a week +/- before my tires came in and got installed.

Go ahead with the lift, you might find that you like the look. It's your truck, do what you want! I kinda like the look myself!!

I'm running a 3" OME lift on stock tires and rims. Looks fine. I'll upgrade the tires to something a bit bigger when I wear he stock tires out. But I'll stick with the stock rims. They're paid for and do the job.

For me, it's mostly about function far more than looks.

Well, first and foremost, thanks for the congrats As I said in my post, I almost got a Chevy Colorado instead (yikes...)

But lets get real, there is no way I am going to be able to buy that 3" lift and just look at it sitting in the garage in its box...

Does anybody really have that control?

 

Well, Lemme take a step back....

being new to the site, I have read a few places about some praises on the toytec lift... I guess what I am trying to ask is, is going with that EZ-lift 3" with procomp AAL not the best idea? I'm not sure I see too much difference, plus I really like how they do the differential drop.

I come from Chevy land... and my last truck was a 95 Z-71 with 35's.... I installed a full 6" lift kit and every component up front dropped 6" as part of the kit. I'm a bit weary about the whole method of these 3" lift kits on Tacos as they are. I mean, there is no control arm lowering, all it is tweaking the angle of the A-arms... Not to sound paranoid, but does that seem all that OK?

congrats on the truck, i just got mine last tues... Im getting ready to put a 3" lift on mine with aftermarket wheels and tires... but it wont hurt to put the lift on now or later. You will probally save money though having it all installed at one time.

 

I gotta 3" lift and i'm runnin 265/75s...I can't wait to get 285s though...they give it that mean stance...

 

Ya, I dont know that it will save me or cost me any more.. I'm doing the labor myself in my garage (doesn't seem to complex of an install). I just dont want to run around with the "too-small-tire look". It may be as far as December/January before I can slap on the 285's I want.

I'm sure it is. And I'm also sure I would have been just as happy with it. There was NOTHING my Z-71 didn't do that I asked it, including pulling a buddy's K-5 out of a lake with water to my door lol.

 

Hold off from getting the lift now and save up until you can do it all at once that way you won't have this problem. You said it may not be til Dec/Jan before you can get bigger tires, couldn't the lift wait a couple months? In the meantime keep researching for the lift you like.

 

My friends Z71 Colorado hasn't given me, or him.. or his parents any problems yet..

 

That makes sense. Maybe i should wait. did anybody find a significant decrease in fuel economy with 285s? The guy at ez lift told mr to expect to lose 100 miles per tank!!! Thats almost one third.

 

thats good...I just haven't heard anything good about em. Its not a bad lookin truck though

 

I'd recommend going through the various posts and finding a setup you like and then pricing it out. That's pretty much what I did to come up with a battle plan that would meet my needs, some of my wants, and fit in my budget. Good luck and congratulations on the new truck!
