These are just a couple of the issues with mine right out of the box. There were a few more spots which chipped and rusted within a week. I ended up having to grind these areas down and fix them myself. Pay a company hundreds of dollars for a product that arrives in bad condition. Love the rack and the look but these issues need to be figured out.

He needs to go back to whatever the process was in 2015. My tailgate cap from then is holding up strong with tons of abuse. The bed rail caps from last summer showed up with chipped powder coating that was peeling up and rusty when brand new.

Waiting for the good old “We buy things in bulk, so these are obviously from an old batch from the previous powder coater” reasoning again.

I just don’t understand why he doesn’t make sure he does it right when compensating for a faulty a product, he just sends another faulty one. Ecspecially when the compensation didn’t go very well.

Good luck OP. My experience was it got worse over time and Chad stopped responding to help with issues. Eventually, I disputed the charge and recycled the rack. Get something better. I ended up getting a CBI rack and it’s been flawless out of the box.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Same experience here. He’s already started responding significantly slower. You’re right, I made a mistake giving them a second chance. But fuck, third times a charm. Prob going to return if crossbars arrive in the same condition and just go with a cbi rack, even though I love the look of these racks.

I had only a few spots missing powder coat when my rack arrived and it was obvious to me those spots were used for mounting during powder coating. I got the aluminum rack, so I am not concerned about rust. The kit did include a black paint pen, so I went over the missing powder coat with black paint anyways.

I had some questions during install and emailed KBVoodoo. They responded essentially immediately, which was nice since I was able to continue right on through installation.

Over a month now with no issues on the aluminum rack.

Was your powdercoat smooth? Mine came with tons of blotches that are eye-sores, and hard speckled powder coating on the edges. blotchy is the best word I can think of to describe it.

Yeah, no issues with the finish other than the hanging positions. Nice and smooth all around. I wonder if the steel wasn't prepped properly for your powder coat.

    It came with a what?!?!

Hate to see the backlash ARB, BAMF , Mobtown , etc would see if they sent a paint pen to cover their lack of quality control.

They have some nicely designed products, but with continual poor quality of powder coat and lack of concern, maybe it's time they are removed as an official vendor.

It's good to be included for future patches as well. Like, I plan to use my rack and I'm sure I'll chip powder coat off at some point. It's a utility rack after all. I chose to use the pen to cover up the (~2-3 small) mounting locations that were missing some powder coat. I'm not saying the pen was included specifically for that. I don't know if that's true.

That thing looks like you could mount a Tacoma on top of your Tacoma.

By the way, my KBVoodoo rack purchase was based on positive reviews found on this forum. So, there's definitely a mixed bag of opinions out there. It was also the more budget friendly option. For now, my family and I will be camping in the RTT on top of this rack. At some point, we may upgrade and get an overland trailer.

At least the MOD are not locking down the “venting threads”

I am SHOCKED they are still allowed to sell on here!

My experience is limited to ARB (3 bars) and BAMF sliders and there wasn’t any indication of where it was hung. ALL the powdercoat was even, textured well and after several years of use or abuse, no issues.

However, this is a all too common theme with this specific vendor

My experience is with Demello Off road, and CBI. Even though I'm not a fan of CBI and this point, their Powder Coat did not look anywhere near this. Very professional powder coat jobs.
